Purpose
To provide strategic leadership, direction, and oversight to maximize Lee Carlson Center’s (LCC) ability to achieve its mission and vision.
Responsibilities
- Long-Term Planning: The Board formulates and evaluates long-term plans for LCC. It proactively establishes the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic direction.
- Organizational Policy: The Board ensures LCC remains aligned with its stated mission.
- Fiscal Accountability: The Board approves and monitors LCC’s financial budget and activities, ensuring responsible use of all resources.
- Fundraising: The Board plays a pivotal role to maintain the financial health of the organization. Board Members act as community ambassadors and have fundraising responsibilities: both giving and raising money.
- Ensuring organizational continuity: The Board is tasked with recruitment, development, retention, and continuity of effective and ethical leadership within the Board to ensure a strong and stable operation. This includes evaluating the Board’s effectiveness as a governing body and assessing board members’ skills to identify areas needing to be addressed.
- Executive Leadership Staff Relations: The Board oversees the hiring and performance evaluation of the CEO. It serves as the final arbiter for internal staff grievances, and each Board Member is responsible for maintaining positive staff-board relationships.
Time Committment
LCC’s Board of Directors currently meets monthly, from 5-7pm on the 4th Tuesday of the month, with a plan to revise the board meeting schedule to bimonthly in 2025. Board Members are expected to attend regular board meetings and may sit on a committee in addition to their Board role. A Board Member term lasts for two years with a limit of four terms (at least one year break after four terms). Board membership requires a commitment of 4-10 hours a month.
Qualifications
- Passion for the mission: Strong commitment to Lee Carlson Center’s mission, vision, and values.
- Leadership experience: Proven ability to provide strategic direction, influence decision-making, and work collaboratively in a team setting.
- Fundraising skills: Ability to support the organization's financial sustainability through personal giving, fundraising efforts, and community connections.
- Financial acumen: Basic understanding of financial management, budgeting, and fiscal oversight.
- Governance knowledge: Familiarity with non-profit governance practices is beneficial but not required.
- Time commitment: Willingness and ability to dedicate 4–10 hours per month to Board-related activities, including meetings, committee work, and fundraising events.

Pay: $0.01 per hour
