Assistant Superintendent Reports To: Superintendent Clients: Students, Staff, Parents, Community Supervises: Directors, Administrative Assistants, Office Staff Review of applications will begin after January 2, 2025. The expected start date for the new Assistant Superintendent is July 1, 2025. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following): Primary Responsibilities:
    Leadership and School Culture:
  • Provides strategic leadership in curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of district-wide instructional strategies and programs.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
  • Attend School Committee meetings and provide reports and regular updates on major program developments.
  • Partner with the Superintendent in the formulation of policy and decision-making regarding system-wide planning, finance and budget, teaching and learning initiatives, long-range plans, district goals and labor/employee relations issues
  • Collaborates with building-level administrators to ensure alignment with district goals.
  • Provide guidance and direction to school Principals and Coordinators in a broad range of areas including but hi professional not limited to day-to-day operations, development, evaluation, discipline, parent/guardian communications, scheduling and course offerings
  • Assist in the shaping of the school district’s culture and climate
  • Plan for the use of educational research
  • Serve as a spokesperson for district educational concerns
  • Develop positive public, community and political relations Teaching and Learning:
  • Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of rigorous, standards-based curriculum.
  • Supports the professional growth of teachers through effective professional development.
  • Oversee the district’s ESL program
  • Oversee district assessment programs both external (MCAS, ACCESS, etc) and internal (benchmark and common assessments)
  • Oversee the continued development and growth of the MTSS for Academics, SEL, Behavior, and Mental Health
  • Direct curriculum review, evaluation and revision and coordinate alignment between elementary and secondary levels
  • Monitor curriculum review cycles
  • Collaborate with EL Coordinators to identify program needs and ensure implementation
  • Coordinate tasks and prepare reports for DESE Tiered Focus Monitoring cycles Grant Management:
  • Develops, writes, and manages state, federal, and private grants.
  • Oversees the budget and financial reporting for grant-funded programs. Policy and Compliance:
  • Stays informed of state and federal regulations and ensures district compliance.
  • Interprets and recommends policies related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Possess knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including those pertaining to civil and criminal liability.
  • Conduct and oversee Title VI and XI investigations as required Communication and Collaboration:
  • Communicates effectively with staff, parents, and community members.
  • Builds strong relationships with stakeholders to foster collaboration and support.
  • Develop positive public, community and political relations Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Supports the hiring and evaluation of teaching staff.
  • Collaborates with central office staff on collective bargaining and other HR matters.
  • Supervises level based Curriculum Directors, Instructional Coaches, Teacher Leaders
  • Coordinate the duties of the curriculum Administrative Assistants and Instructional Assistants for the department.
  • Lead collaborative meetings with Principals, Coordinators, and new Administrators
  • Provide for articulation with State and Federal standards and trends
  • Establish and implement an evaluation design for performance outcomes
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent. Assessment of Performance:
