Purpose: The Database Administrator role is responsible for providing operational database services to the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Owning, tracking, and resolving database related incidents and requests.
Assisting developers in optimizing SQL code and stored procedures to ensure optimal database performance.
Develop ETL processes and provide data to reporting infrastructure.
Develop and review service-related reports (database backups, maintenance, monitoring and performance) on a daily basis to ensure service-related issues are identified and resolved within established SLAs.
Responding to database related alerts and escalations and working with database engineering to come up with strategic solutions to recurring problems.
Initiating and performing changes on production systems and proactively escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within the established time frames.
Continued self-development in order to understand latest database advancements.
Required to attend mandatory meetings and training, work scheduled overtime with minimal notice, and perform other duties as assigned per business needs.
Qualification Requirements –
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Able to read, write and speak English.
Successfully pass and maintain acceptable background checks and security clearances.
Bachelor’s degree plus 3-5 year of experience providing end-user technical support preferred.
3 to 5 years working with open source relational database platforms such as MySQL, PostgreSQL and/or non-Relational such as MongoDB or Cassandra.
Experience with Microsoft SQL Server a plus.
Experience in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using Performance Monitoring and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
Ability to detect and troubleshoot database related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention.
Working knowledge of backup and recovery procedures.
Knowledge of indexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration, and patching.
SQL Development – ability to write and troubleshoot SQL and PL Code and design (stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints).
Ability to write ETL packages and convert data for use in SSRS Reports.
Ability to work with Infrastructure and Virtualization staff on the performance of Hardware and Virtual components across CPU, Memory, and back-end Storage environments to provide optimum Hardware and Operating Systems selection.
Solid acquaintance with Linux Server, LDAP and storage components.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Superior project management – Must effectively develop and manage project plans identifying all tasks, timelines, and resource staffing needed to meet project deadlines. Ensure project remains on timeline track and within budget managing delays and resolving problems. Expert time management skills.
Focus on managing and resolving issues in alignment with the SLAs.
Occasional night and weekend availability for changes and support as needed.
Travel (infrequent) as needed.

Computer Skills:
Must have knowledge of and work experience with Microsoft technologies, including Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Must have knowledge of at least one open source database platform, i.e. MySQL or PostgreSQL.
Competent knowledge of the Linux operating system and command line management.
Understanding of HA technologies including Clustering and data replication.
