What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Manager position at Dawson Construction?
The Water / Wastewater Senior Manager is responsible for leading and managing a team of 1-2 project managers while simultaneously managing their own infrastructure construction project(s), such as Water, Wastewater, Process Piping, Civil, Earthwork, Utilities, Structures, etc. This take-charge leader has a strong customer focus, a sense of urgency, a concern and respect for safety, and the desire to achieve quality in the final product.
Essential Functions
1. Leads, Manages, and Develops a Team
- Builds a collaborative team of 1-2 project managers with varying experience and skill sets.
- Ability to work with a diverse group to build and lead cohesive teams that can successfully execute projects by meeting, or ultimately exceeding, schedule, budget and quality.
- Invests in the growth and development of each direct report.
- Manages the day-to-day needs of the team; ensuring they have the support they need to successfully manage their projects while holding them accountable to their respective deliverables (see #2).
2. Infrastructure Projects
- Responsible for the pursuit, planning, bidding, and successful execution of water, wastewater, and process piping infrastructure projects.
- Ensures projects meet a high standard for safety, quality, schedule and client satisfaction.
- Leads the bidding process ensuring accurate bids are turned in on time.
- Communicates effectively with clients, engineers, subcontractors, consultants and suppliers.
- Responsible for building and updating detailed and accurate CPM schedules and communicating the overall project plan to the project team and other stakeholders.
- Responsible for the financial success of projects including tracking and reporting on progress, cost control, change order management and providing monthly projections and project status reports including managing and projecting project labor.
- Ensures the timely procurement of project materials including buy-out, contracting, submittal and shop drawing review and coordination of deliveries.
- Demonstrates a dedication to clients through quality services, building long term relationships, and ensuring projects exceed expectations.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of the construction industry, specifically infrastructure, process piping, commercial and industrial general contracting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on customer service. Ability to speak clearly and articulate using proper grammar.
- Ability to maintain a good attendance record.
- Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel and Word).
- Skilled working in scheduling (Phoenix) and PDF mark-up (BlueBeam) software.
- Experienced estimator with the ability to use Heavy Bid software.
- Ability to work effectively in ERP system software (Viewpoint).
Education and/or Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering (or closely related).
- 10 years of project management experience on infrastructure construction projects.
- All positions require authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future.
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation - $110,000 - $160,000 annually
- Annual Bonus; depends upon individual and company performance.
