As our Controller, you will be a member of our Management Team, serving as a strategic partner with the CEO. As the financial backbone of the company, you will LEAD our Accounting Team and oversee the financial operations of DC Building Group strategically planning and managing the company’s financial needs.

The Controller will coordinate and foster effective working relationships with a variety of outside agencies, firms, and companies. Collaboration, leadership, sound judgement, analytical and organizational skills will be key to success. The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of finance and accounting principles, GAAP, and financial planning.

DCBG seeks candidates who have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and seven years of experience in finance or accounting in the construction industry, with two years at a management level.

Prior public accounting experience and CCIFP certification are desired.

Job Summary

As a member of the Management Team, the Controller is responsible for the overall management and direction of the Accounting Team and financial operations of DC Building Group, LLC (DCBG).

Responsibilities

Supervises and mentors accounting staff, providing training and support as needed.

Ensures the timely and accurate execution of company payroll.

Prepares and presents preliminary balance sheet, income statements, and associated Work in Progress (WIP) reports to the CEO.

Prepares the monthly financial reports.

Monitors expenses, budgeting, and financial performance to meet the company's objectives.

Manages the monthly pay applications and collections procedures, payment processing in accordance with contractual terms to maintain project cash flow.

Collaborates closely with the CEO to strategically organize and ready the company for continued growth, mitigate risk, and develop efficient operating systems to increase profitability and optimize distributions.

Oversees and manages the Human Resources department.

Establishes and maintains a system of internal controls that safeguards company assets.

Prepares the annual budget and monthly projections.

Oversees, organizes, and plans the company’s financial requirements to optimize investment returns, ensure financial security, and foster company growth in line with yearly targets and objectives.

Makes recommendations for future actions based on the performance of key performance indicators.

Collaborates with the Operations Team to ensure accurate financial tracking of each project by overseeing budgets, costs, profits, and managing potential risks.

Develops and maintains productive working relationships with a range of external agencies, businesses, and organizations, including but not limited to those in the banking, legal, tax and audit, bonding, and insurance sectors, to procure the necessary professional services for project acquisition and precise reporting.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of all facets of finance and accounting within the commercial general contracting construction industry, GAAP accounting and financial principles and practices, systems and processes, project life cycles, applicable laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.

Knowledge of how to identify and respond appropriately to issues, concerns, and needs.

Knowledge of strategic financial planning, leadership and management principles and practices.

Proficiency in managing time well, work independently with little oversight, adhering to deadlines, and prioritizing tasks effectively.

Skilled in leading and coordinating teams internally and externally. Establish and oversee the execution of goals, objectives, and processes to deliver sound financial services that align with the company's standards.

Skilled in carrying out research, dissecting complicated problems, develop, recommend, implement and execute strategic solutions.

Competencies in proficiently handling complaints and problems; ability to use judgment and make rapid, logical, autonomous choices within the bounds of legal and procedural standards and apply efficient negotiation strategies.

Technical abilities, encompassing computer literacy and relevant ERP software; proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Effective and professional communication abilities in both writing and speaking, with an emphasis on clarity and conciseness.

Ability to guide the creation of financial policies and regulations; adept at problem-solving, evaluating different solutions, forecasting outcomes of potential actions, and executing advised courses of action to achieve objectives.

Understanding of human resources principles, practices, and programs.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, and seven years of progressive experience in Finance or Accounting, two years of which were at a management level. An equivalent combination of related education, training and experience and/or certification may be considered.

Possess and maintain a valid Nevada or “border state” driver’s license, as defined by NRS 483.

Must pass a nation-wide background check and pre-employment drug test.


Desirable Qualifications

Construction Industry with Financial Management in similar role is highly preferred.

Prior public accounting experience

CCIFP certification or equivalent

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Mobility to travel to various job sites, client meetings and other business-related job sites. and meetings.

Capable of lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds, with infrequent cases of up to 30 pounds, requiring either team-lifting or mechanical help for anything heavier.
