Position Summary
Democracy Summer Section Coordinators will be responsible for an assigned Democracy Summer region. They will be the main point of contact for the campaigns assigned to their section, and will oversee the Monday and Wednesday programming for their assigned Fellows. Throughout the rest of the week, the Section Coordinators are responsible for checking in with their assigned campaigns, attending virtual events if applicable, encouraging collaboration between campaigns, answering Fellow questions, and preparing materials for upcoming discussions. This position will begin in late May.
This is a 10-week position with a $4,000 stipend.
Responsibilities Include

Supporting and advising a group of 5-6 Organizing Directors as it relates to the program.
- This will entail working closely with them to answer their questions and make sure they have what they need to oversee the Fellows in their small discussion groups.
- Serving as the main point of contact for Democracy Summer partner campaigns in your assigned region.
- Helping to foster a spirit of unity between Democracy Summer Fellows by connecting campaigns with others across the region and encouraging shared events and activities.
- Assisting with producing program graphics and content for the National Democracy Summer
- Serving as a mentor and role model to Fellows.
- Democracy Summer program facilitation, including hosting Zoom calls, leading large group discussion with Fellows, and triaging volunteers and questions about the program and its activities.
- Helping to prepare materials for group discussions. This may include tasks such as drafting discussion questions and distributing reading materials to Fellows.
- Conducting weekly Office Hours for Fellows.
- Guiding Fellows in the basics of phone banking, text banking, learning about vote by mail systems and procedures, donor research, etc.
- Staying in close contact with campaigns in your assigned region on days when there is no National Democracy Summer programming.
- Actively participating in events hosted by campaigns in your assigned region, when possible.
- Building community amongst the Fellows by fostering a positive environment at all times.
- Additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently and as part of a team;
- Commitment to the election of Democrats up and down the ballot;
- Adaptable to changing needs and program priorities
- Previous political campaign experience a plus;
- Ability to demonstrate multicultural competence —the awareness, knowledge, and skills needed to work with others who are culturally different from self in meaningful, relevant, and productive ways;
- Have a personal and professional commitment to promoting and investing in cross-cultural skills and awareness related to individuals from broad backgrounds, races, ethnicities, religions, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and disability;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent organizational, management, and interpersonal skills;
- A positive, team-oriented attitude;
- Current driver’s license.
