We are seeking a qualified Technical Writer Supervisor position in the Virginia Beach, VA, Austin, TX, or San Diego, CA areas. Other geographic locations are possible.

Position Description:
The Technical Writer Supervisor position supports the technical and training leads who are providing training to U.S. Navy Sailors on the Tactical Tomahawk Weapon Control System which is a vital weapon contributing to our nation’s defense. This effort supports the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD) which is part of the larger Naval Sea Systems Command. The NSWC PHD mission is to provide research, development, test and evaluation, and in-service engineering and logistics support to the United States Navy (USN), other military services, and government agencies. Its focus areas include combat systems, unmanned systems, surface ship systems, and information system.
Work location and telework: Work location is Virginia Beach, VA, Austin, TX, or San Diego, CA areas. Other geographic locations are possible. Work from home may be possible when not required to be onsite or on travel.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develops, writes and edits material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instructions books, catalogs and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment.
- Acts as supervisor to other Technical Writers. Observes production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail. Interviews production and engineering personnel and reads journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods.
- Organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
- Reviews published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of work and revisions. Edits material prepared by other writers or plant personnel.
- May specialize in writing material regarding work methods and procedures.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Clearance: SECRET
- Education: Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience: Five (5) years of experience developing and producing interactive/online technical documentation for combat weapon systems.
Desired Qualifications and Skills:
- Two (2) years demonstrated experience supervising content development and integration efforts for interactive electronic technical manuals (IETM) and interactive media instruction (IMI) and training products.
- Experience using browser-based languages including Extensible Markup Language (XML), Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML), JavaScript and Cascading Style Sheets.
- Two (2) years demonstrated experience using XML authoring tool sets.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret operational/maintenance manuals and operational procedures for Navy Combat Weapon systems.
- Direct experience with development of Tomahawk Weapons Control System technical documentation products.
Travel Requirements:
- Limited travel to the continental United States (primarily east and west coasts)
- Limited / Occasional overseas travel
