Assistant Swim Coach - Deerwood Country Club

Job Summary: The Assistant Swim Coach supports the head coach in conducting practices, overseeing meets, handling administrative duties, and more throughout the swim season (March - August). This is a variable schedule that may include mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Be kind to children and swim team families.
• Willingness to learn from and support the head coach, following their philosophy.
• Be punctual at all times.
• Must be available for the entire swim team season and attend all meets and practices.
• Maintain a professional appearance with clothing that is in good taste, crisp, clean, and in good repair.
• Exhibit a professional and welcoming demeanor.
• Greet swimmers and their parents by name whenever possible.
• Be on deck before swimmers enter the water. Ensure swimmers are not left unsupervised during any practice or swim meet.
• Set up for each practice and swim meet prior to the team’s starting time.
• Be aware of any/all medical conditions of all swimmers on the team.
• Ensure fair practices and swim meet experiences.
• Know and understand emergency procedures.
• Learn about known or potentially hazardous areas of the pool.
• Demonstrate and teach swimming techniques to children. Be willing to learn from the head coach and adapt to their philosophy.
• Supervise the entire swim meet, including warm-ups, practice dives, events, etc., ensuring the safety of the swimmers.
• Ensure all equipment used during practice and/or swim meets is stored properly following the events.
• Perform other tasks that will assist in providing quality member service as assigned by the Swim Team Coach or Fitness Director.

Skills/Qualifications:

• Must be able to see and hear swimmers in the assigned area.
• Must be able to work on feet, moving about at a quick pace for several hours at a time.
• Be able to lift, carry, and move a minimum of 30 pounds, including equipment and furniture.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, O2, First Aid, and Swim Instructor certifications.
• Previous experience as a swim instructor or coach.
• Experience working with children and young adults in a sports setting.
• Familiarity with competitive swimming techniques and training methods.
• Demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with Club standards.
• Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
• Ability to lift equipment and small to average-sized children.
