The File Clerk is responsible for maintaining the Defender Association client files and filing system. The Clerk is responsible for the file flow of all the Defender’s client files from initial stage of opening files through closing, storage and/or scanning preparation. This position consistently follows the filing protocols to ensure that the filing system meets the Defender Association records management standards. In addition, this role assists all members of the Unit with clients’ files and cases that includes tasks such as copying, printing documents as directed and delivering documents. This role’s tasks are essential to the Unit’s work to provide the best legal representation for our clients.
What You’ll Do
- Maintain all legal files and filing system
- Manage file room
- Assist team in all documentation needs in legal representation of clients such as printing, filing, scanning and delivering documents
- Update case file database and produce reports
What You’ll Need
- High school diploma (preferred) or GED
- Clerical or administrative experience preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
- Ability to learn the Defender’s various databases with 90 day probationary period
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and solve problems
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds
