Objective
Substitute Instructional Assistants provide educational services and instruction support in the absence of the classroom instructional assistant. They will assist in the management of the classroom, assist in carrying out lesson plans and address pupil behavior. Substitute Instructional Assistants work on an as needed basis. Assignments are scheduled as needed and may change at any time per administration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Ensures that all actions are compliant with established Board policies as well as the mission, vision and values defined by the district and Board of Education.
- Carries out such additional duties as required or as conditions necessitate.
- Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Comply with all procedures, guidelines, and policies of the school at all times.
- Follow regular instructional assistant’s lesson plans in a way that ensures consistency and optimal learning, and that encourages students to participate.
- Assist with classwork and homework as necessary, according to lesson plans.
- Assist in maintaining a well-managed classroom and positive learning environment.
- Supervise students out of class such as in the hallways and in the cafeteria.
- Keep classroom and work orderly and maintain normal classroom rhythms.
- Maintain a professional demeanor in all manner of conduct with students, faculty, and parents, including a commitment to confidentiality.
- Work with students individually and in small groups to assist with the learning of content and skills introduced by the teacher.
- Assist the teacher and students with cleanup from activities.
- Assist students with the use of specialized equipment.
- Assist students with preparing for and moving to other classrooms, school activities, outside activities and arrival and departure from school.
- Help students with clothing, grooming, health habits, and bathroom activities as needed.

Qualifications (one of the following)
1. Substitute Paraprofessional license registered with the DeKalb Regional Office of Education required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to read and comprehend written instructions.
- Basic computer operations.
- Effectively collaborate with co-workers fostering environment of dignity and respect.
- Ability to be flexible, friendly and good at establishing quick rapport with students.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional school environment. This role routinely uses standard office computer equipment such as computers, laptops and servers.
Travel
Minimal in district travel may be required.
Education and Experience
- Prior experience in a related position/field preferred.
