The Opportunity
Denali is seeking a motivated 1L or 2L candidate for an internship position in the Denali Legal Team. As a Legal Intern, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of matters; depending on your professional interests, you’ll have the option to work on matters involving intellectual property (IP), privacy, corporate governance, deals and partnerships, employment law, and regulatory compliance. You’ll assist with projects that will impact our business strategy and commercialization efforts, helping us build a strong legal foundation for long-term success. This internship is ideal for a law student with a keen interest in biotech and a desire to gain holistic exposure to the legal challenges in an innovative, fast-paced setting.
Responsibilities may include:
Intellectual Property (IP): Assist in identifying inventions, building IP strategies, patent and trademark filings, conducting patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses, and other work to protect and leverage Denali’s IP.
Corporate Governance and Finance: Support corporate governance practices, preparing meeting materials and assisting with board documentation and regulatory filings. Provide support for quarterly SEC filings as well as press releases, and assist with diligence for fundraising efforts.
Deals & Partnerships: Assist in drafting, negotiating, and reviewing vendor agreements, informed consent forms, and licensing agreements.
Employment Law: Support the Legal and Human Resources teams on employment matters, including policy development, employee onboarding and offboarding processes, and compliance with employment regulations.
Regulatory Compliance: Aid in navigating the complex legal regulatory landscape, helping ensure compliance with privacy laws and industry-specific regulations, including FDA, EMA, and other relevant authorities.
Requirements
Currently enrolled in law school (1L or 2L J.D. candidate); a background in life sciences is helpful but not required.
Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills
Highly organized, responsible, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Able to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and adapt to changing business needs
The expected wage for this position based on the South San Francisco California office location is $136,000.00 annualized and prorated on length of assignment. Paid holiday time off is based on Denali's designated holidays. Interns who live more than 50 miles away from the office are eligible for an additional housing stipend.
