What are the responsibilities and job description for the INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST I position at Department of Education?
Proactively monitors information security-related products and services for signs of potential suspicious or malicious activity at CDE and SSSDC sites, takes appropriate remediation steps, and communicates actions to various levels of the department. Primary focus is on network-centric products and services such as remote access solutions, network and web application firewalls, network access control, and DNS filtering.
Provides immediate response to high-priority alerts from information security-related products and services to ensure the potential problem is evaluated and proper remediation steps are taken, if necessary.
Configure and manage information security-related products and services at CDE and SSSDC sites. Primary focus is on network-centric products and services, including Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solutions.
Make recommendations to CDE management on new information security-related products and services that will strengthen and enhance the information security posture at CDE and SSSDC sites.

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. A hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and physically reporting to the office.

Desirable Qualifications
- 2 years of working experience troubleshooting IT security-related software agents and configuration settings on Microsoft Windows-based computing devices.
- 1 years of working experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting IT security-related log information so that recommended actions can be considered.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
