What are the responsibilities and job description for the FISH AND WILDLIFE SCIENTIFIC AID position at Department of Fish and Wildlife?
This job entails assisting the state wolf biologists in determining the distribution and abundance of Gray Wolves in northern California and with efforts to prevent Gray Wolf conflicts with livestock production. The successful candidate will gain valuable experience working independently and as part of a small team, driving 4-wheel drive and/or all-terrain vehicles, setting up and monitoring trail cameras, surveying for Gray Wolf tracks, scats and other signs, and deploying non-lethal deterrents measures to prevent Gray Wolf conflicts with livestock.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Fish and Wildlife Scientific Aid classification is a non-testing classification.

Working Conditions
This position requires extensive time in the field driving on dirt roads, using 4-wheel drive vehicles and/or all-terrain vehicles, and hiking in steep and rugged terrain under adverse weather. The position may require irregular work hours including weekends and holidays. Extensive overnight travel and camping is required. This position regularly requires the use of a computer for several hours at a time in the office. Periods of sitting, standing, and walking in the office are required. A valid Driver’s License is required to operate state vehicles. This position may be required to sometimes wear a uniform.
