About this Role:
The Section Chief, Policy & Operations organizes, directs, and reviews the work of a small highly-skilled policy staff and an administrative services unit to support the Health Care Financing Deputy Director’s Office and four operating divisions.
- The policy staff research, analyze, monitor, evaluate, and support the ongoing implementation of high-profile policy affecting the financing of providers and health plans under the Medi-Cal program, including but not limited to, new programs and reimbursement methodologies, state and federal legislation and regulations, and the state budget process.
- The administrative services unit, provides central administrative services for the Health Care Financing, Deputy Director's Office and over 300 staff in four operating divisions including, but not limited to, staff recruitment, personnel transactions, training, budget administration, contracts and procurement, facility services, mail services, and record retention.
The Section Chief will work directly with the Deputy Director and Assistant Deputy Director in a “chief of staff”-like role to support policy decisions and program operations. This recruitment is for the inaugural Section Chief, who will be recruiting and onboarding an expanded policy team and modernizing the existing administrative services unit over the first 12 months. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with a strong background in financial and economic policy analysis in healthcare or a transferable policy area, and a passion for driving impactful change. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will have experience managing and improving program administration and operations.
