Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.
To provide essential administrative and technical support to the Chief of Security at BAJCC. This position plays a vital role in assisting with daily operational tasks, ensuring efficient security project support, and maintaining facility operations in compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations. Responsible for organizing data, preparing reports, coordinating communications, managing documentation, and supporting various security initiatives within the facility.
Document preparation, record keeping, data entry, analysis, and reporting, meeting coordination, communication facilitation, inventory management, incident documentation, and assisting with security operations.
Administrative, public-facing position that requires in-person and face-to-face work with the public to include visitors, contractors, staff, and juveniles in our care. Requires the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. Requires the ability to manage and organize security-related documents, records, and reports.
Minimum Qualifications
- Proficient in correctional policies and procedures; records management, including confidential records; and administrative operations, to include state procurement and inventory processes.
- Strong understanding of security protocols and operational efficiency, with the ability to analyze and resolve complex issues in fast-paced environments.
- Demonstrates exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills, coupled with a keen attention to detail and a high level of professionalism.
- Skilled in collaborating effectively, gathering and interpreting data.
- Proficient in various software applications (including Word, Excel, and database management systems), including database management systems, with a solid understanding of basic IT troubleshooting. Demonstrates adaptability in managing shifting priorities and consistently performs at a high level under pressure, particularly during emergency situations or critical incidents.
Additional Considerations
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population. Strong technical writing skills and attention to detail, preferred.
