About the Position:

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Program Support Technician in our Criminal Justice Information Services Division at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will process Virginia and/or Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) responses received electronically through the Consolidated Applicant Tracking System (CATS); compare demographic information in Consolidated Applicant Tracking System (CATS) with information submitted with criminal history request to ensure accurate identity; conduct inquiries based on FBI responses which indicates a record exists and forwards the Computerized Criminal History (CCH) printouts to the requesting agency or to the Dissemination Desk when screening for Barrier Crimes; conduct inquiries on names and other descriptive data, using the Criminal History Background Request forms in order to determine if a criminal history record exists in the computerized criminal history files; open/review incoming mail for completeness, and accuracy pursuant to established procedures; and sort and distribute mail.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
  • Skill in using a personal computer and Microsoft Office applications, and keyboarding.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement and apply prescribed policies, procedures; to follow written and verbal instructions, and pay close attention to details; to research and analyze information and make logical decisions based on policies, procedures, and laws associated with criminal history checks; to work independently and as part of a team; and to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be eligible to become Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified, which requires either being a United States citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.


Additional Considerations

  • Some experience working in a criminal justice environment dealing with confidential information preferred.
