The Department of State Hospitals-Atascadero is a secure public sector hospital providing inpatient forensic services for mentally ill adult males who are court committed throughout the State of California.

The Office Technician (Typing) will be under various administrative managers of Department of State Hospitals – Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:

• Utilizing clerical and computer skills to assist with the preparation of document files, reports, and maintaining database systems for the Department.
• Receive, screen, and route incoming telephone calls, take messages, answer questions concerning facility/department and refer calls to appropriate staff.
• Prepare daily sign-in sheets, record staff time usage on the time sheet and perform other tasks related to timekeeping.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Either 1: One year of experience in California state service performing clerical duties at a level of responsibility equivalent to that of an Office Assistant, Range B.

Or

2: Experience: Two years of experience in typing and clerical work. [Academic education above the twelfth grade may be substituted for one year of the required general experience on the basis of either (a) one year of general education being equivalent to three months of experience; or (b) one year of education of a business or commercial nature being equivalent to six months of experience. Students who are enrolled in the last semester or its equivalent of course work, which upon completion will fulfill these requirements, will be admitted to the examination, but they must submit evidence of completion before they can be considered for appointment.]

Must be able to type 40 WPM. Must provide a valid typing certificate with a minimum speed of 40 WPM. Typing tests for certification must be 5 minutes in length and proctored either virtually or in person.
