Overview of role :
Deriva Energy is seeking an ambitious, self-motivated and talented intern for its corporate communications department. The Corporate Communications team is a cornerstone of the company's ability to achieve its strategic business plan, and this internship will offer a student an opportunity to gain on-the-job experience in a dynamic industry. This role will support both internal and external communications efforts across the company, with exposure to employee communications and campaigns, brand journalism, executive communications, community affairs, event planning, digital media and media relations.
Deriva Energy is headquartered in Charlotte, NC. but its teammates are located all across North America. The Deriva Communications Team is located in Charlotte, N.C. and routinely meets in person.
Responsibilities (subject to change based on emerging topics and issues) :
Support development of communications plans for internal and external topics, announcements and campaigns, accounting for a wide range of audiences and stakeholders. The specific topics and campaigns will be determined closer to the start date of the internship based on timing, emerging projects, etc.
Develop compelling, creative content for the company's intranet, known as the Employee Portal, to share strategic updates, leadership messages, information and human-interest stories with all teammates across the U.S., and leverage that content for brand journalism and social media.
Support the execution of the company's external communications and community affairs strategy, including coordinating with external agencies as Deriva Energy launches and / or expands community giving.
Coordinate employee communications to spearhead planning and communication about employee volunteerism opportunities.
Build upon the company's existing key message and fact sheets library to enable sales team and other external-facing teammates to communicate with customers, investors and vendors to share the Deriva Energy story.
Participate in media training for senior leaders to learn more about executive communications, media relations and crisis communications in an applied setting.
Present learnings, challenges and insights from internship with communications and the leadership team before the internship period ends to help Deriva Energy continue to enhance our program.
Working Conditions :
This is a year-round internship opportunity to work part-time on a flexible schedule
This position is located in Charlotte, NC or may be remote
This is a hybrid position; employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to the designated office location.
Required / Basic Qualifications :
Working towards or currently have a degree in communications, public relations, digital communications, organizational communications or related discipline
Have and maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher
Desired Qualifications :
Go-getter personality with an eagerness to learn, willingness to "roll up your sleeves" to get the job done and focus on building relationships within the company.
Design experience preferred; writing and portfolio examples required
Have working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or similar software
Working knowledge of web design or development is a plus
A passion for storytelling and creating compelling content with a strong graphic design background.
Interest in pursuing a job in corporate communications, communications / marketing agencies, community affairs and / or journalism upon graduation.
Strong written communication skills, including being able to adapt content depending on audience and channel.
Strong verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
Strong knowledge, skills, and fluency with digital and social media platforms.
Evolving and expanding leadership in extracurricular activities
