Position Overview
The Director of Marketing is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing integrated marketing and branding strategies that align with DDC's strategic plan and drive tourism growth in a responsible and community-centered way. This senior leader will manage all marketing efforts across digital and print while analyzing performance metrics and market trends. The ideal candidate will be a highly strategic and collaborative marketing expert with proven experience leading brand development and campaign management in destination marketing or tourism-related industries.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership:
- Working with DDC’s Agency of Record (AOR), develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy aligned with DDC’s mission, vision, and promise.
- Working with DDC’s AOR, identify target audiences, key markets, and growth opportunities to drive year-round tourism.
- Foster collaboration with internal departments, Community Business Associations (CBAs), and external partners.
2. Brand Management:
- Oversee brand development and ensure consistent messaging across all platforms.
3. Campaign Development
- With DDC’s AOR, ensure the planning, execution, and optimization of multi-channel marketing campaigns, including digital, print, video, and experiential marketing to produce positive results following the Strategic Plan and Key Performance Indicators.
4. Digital Innovation
- Oversee the organization’s digital presence, including DoorCounty.com, email marketing, and SEO/SEM strategies.
- Integrate with the Communications team for social media platforms.
- Working with the AOR, leverage analytics tools to monitor performance and refine campaigns for optimal ROI.
5. Partnerships and Collaboration
- Work with community stakeholders, lodging partners, and municipal leaders to align marketing initiatives.
- Build co-op marketing opportunities that amplify the reach of local businesses and organizations.
6. Advocacy and Industry Representation
- Professionally and responsibly represent DDC at industry events to stay informed on emerging tourism marketing trends, best practices, and strategic opportunities.
- Ensure that DDC marketing efforts align with community values, support local businesses and keep Door County at the forefront of responsible and sustainable tourism.
7. Data-Driven Decisions
- Analyze tourism trends, visitor behavior, and campaign performance to inform marketing strategies.
- Utilize research and analytics to demonstrate the impact of marketing initiatives on the local economy.
8. Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor the marketing team to foster creativity, professional development, and collaboration.
- Manage relationships with external agencies, freelancers, and vendors to ensure high-quality deliverables.
9. Sustainability Focus
- Incorporate principles of sustainable tourism into marketing strategies to support DDC’s commitment to preserving Door County’s natural and cultural assets.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or related industry experience (Master’s degree preferred).
- 7 years of progressive marketing experience, including leadership roles in tourism, hospitality, or a related industry.
- Strong knowledge of digital marketing tools and techniques, including SEO, SEM, Google Analytics, and social media platforms.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for storytelling and brand positioning.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- A track record of fostering partnerships and driving collaborative initiatives.
- Passion for sustainable tourism and community-focused marketing.
- Familiarity with Door County’s unique offerings and tourism landscape is a plus.
