Direct Support Professional - Certified Medical Technician
Description: DSP serves as direct support staff for individuals with Developmental Disabilities within either the Day Program or Residential community-based Setting. The DSP primary responsibility is to create and maintain an environment where assigned individuals are safe and in compliance with Developmental Disabilities Administration guidelines and expectations. This is achieved through nurturing and caring for the individual with respect to their unique needs and desires. The DSP should be in constant communication with their direct supervisor
and agency Delegating Nurse (if applicable) to ensure all clients are receiving proper medical care to ensure the health of each client. DSP will assist individuals to participate in the community by accompanying individuals to medical appointments and activities. In addition, this position is responsible for providing a range of residential training supports to individuals and their families, tracking and reporting on progress, significant events (reportable and internal incidents) and providing leadership to the individuals served. DSP are required to document all events on the appropriate agency forms.

Education and/or experience:
o At least 1 year of College
o Valid CMT Certification
o Competent computer skills including MS Office or equivalent
o IValid Driver’s License
o CPR/First Aid training

15. Driving Record General Tasks and Responsibilities:
1.Provides a nurturing environment and close intensive supervision and security for all individuals in the residential program
- Maintains a physically safe environment, document and report all needed repairs immediately.
- Attend core training and orientation for employees.
- Assures individual’s basic needs are met including but not limited to meals, medication administration, hygiene, socialization, and basic human rights.
- Administers medication in an accurate and timely manner, under the delegation of the agency nurse.
- Assures that individuals’ daily schedule is followed and/or altered according to their needs, desires, and preference.
- Assures attendance at medical, dental, counseling, or other social service appointments including transportation as needed.
o Adhere to agency policies and procedures in accordance with state regulations and complete given tasks.
o Support participation in the community via: grocery shopping and storage, transportation to and from appointments, and individual supervision.
o Attend staff meetings.
o Assist in the safe evacuation of all persons during an emergency or disaster situation.
o Keep residents informed of all policies and procedures and ensure compliance with these guidelines.
o Teaches healthy living skills and conducts recreational and social activities enhancing skill acquisition and fun
- Monitors activities and whereabouts of individuals
o Assist with intake and assessment of prospective program participants
- If required. Communicate and coordinate with administrative members.
o Assist with agency event planning and implementation.
2. Utilizes approved behavior management techniques appropriately with individuals
i. Assures feedback is clear, specific, timely and respectful
ii. Effectively communicates behavior choices to individuals, outlining the positive and negative
consequences of their choices in accordance with the approved behavior support plan
iii. Communication is adjusted to meet the individuals’ development level and style of communication
3. Employs relationship and counseling skills effectively
i. Models healthy interactions and respectful communication with individuals
ii. Forms caring therapeutic relationships that are warm, nurturing, empathetic and unconditional
iii. Relates to individuals objectively and fairly, considering the individual’s specific needs
iv. Works with individuals to problem-solve and identify solutions to problematic behaviors
v. Facilitates group counseling/skills training sessions assisting individuals in skill development in specific target areas of their Individual Plan
4. Works effectively within a team of co-workers
i. Maintains communication with staff members using a Communication Log and shift-change meetings
ii. Reviews staff and incident logs daily
iii. Tracks team and individual information in staff logs and client notes, using professional language
iv. Participates and contributes to team meetings and case reviews in a constructive manner
v. Maintains communication with co-workers throughout shift and across shifts, keeping them apprised of therapeutic issues
vi. Consults with team and follows through with on recommendations. Remains aware of overall program climate and assists others when need arises
vii. Communicates constructively, appropriately and problem solves differences
5. Completes all individual daily reports, implement program plan goals and documentation in a timely manner in accordance with program procedures – standards.
i. Write progress notes in accordance with agency standards for all individual
