Position Description:
The Program Coordinator for Children’s Programs will be responsible for the development, scheduling and day-to-day functioning of DARA-sponsored activity programs for children, including but not limited to camps, after- school programs and pre-K activities and for the development of seasonal activities that engage the community. The typical workweek is eight (8) hours/day, five (5) days per week, with some weekend work or longer hours during high activity season.
Essential Functions:
- Assess and plan appropriate activities for children, given the available equipment and facilities.
· Develop themes, organize, promote, order branded merchandise and facilitate exciting camps for children under the age of 14, including for summer and for breaks in the local school calendar.
· Develop and facilitate dynamic, educational activities for the after-school program.
· Plan, promote, and coordinate seasonal special events to engage the DeWitt community, including pre-K programming, workshops, classes and holiday-themed activities.
· Hire and train part-time staff to support children’s programming.
· Administer first aid according to prescribed procedures and notify emergency medical personnel when necessary.
· Complete and maintain accurate schedules, financial records, attendance forms, and inventory lists.
- Create and maintain collaborative relationships with instructors, participants and advisory boards.
- Collaborate with DARA personnel, program sponsors, and community stakeholders to schedule venues and coordinate transportation for trips.
- Confer with Executive Director to discuss and resolve concerns and participant complaints.
· Complete the monthly newsletter and assist with marketing activities for all DARA programs.
· Collaborate effectively with peers, assisting with other DARA programs and activities as assigned.
· Provide coverage in the office as needed.
· Other duties appropriate to the role of program coordinator.
Position Objectives:
· Create a positive, welcoming and inclusive environment to implement the mission and vision created by the Authority Board and Executive Director.
· Provide a variety of educational and recreational activities for children and to expand community engagement in the DARA service area.
· Ensure that all activities are fully supplied, funded, monitored and housed.
· Promote greater citizen involvement to strengthen the social foundation of the community and enhance the enjoyment of life in the City of DeWitt, DeWitt Township, and the surrounding area.
Employment Qualifications:
· At least one year of related work experience providing activities for children.
· Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Event Management, Recreation & Parks Administration, or a closely related field is preferred.
· Certified Parks and Recreation Professional is preferred.
· First aid/CPR certification required either upon hire or within one month?
· Ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
· An understanding of and appreciation for the unique needs of children’s services.
· Creative skills necessary to develop distinctive community experiences and promote events.
· Ability to interact and communicate effectively with peers, various population groups and individuals.
· A commitment to excellent public relations and customer service.
· Demonstrated experience in leading projects and activities.
· Proficient with standard office equipment and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Powerpoint and Excel).
· Preferred: work experience in marketing or social media coordination.
· Often requires computer work, sitting for long periods, and general office duties.
· Lifting under 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
· Often requires walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing, kneeling and/or twisting.
· Specific vision requirements include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
· Must hear and speak well enough to conduct business over the telephone or face to face (in English) for long periods of time.
Minimum Environmental Expectations:
This position will require working both indoors and outdoors. Outdoor activities occasionally involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $41,000.00 - $49,823.00 per year
