SUMMARY:

The Senior Collections Specialist is responsible for the collections of customer accounts as directed by the Collections Manager. In addition, this position is responsible for assisting the Collections Manager with reporting and providing guidance to the collection team when needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with the preparation of weekly collection reports pertaining to past due customer and unapplied cash.
• Handle escalations regarding past due customers and payment plans for accounts under 5,000 USD.
• Work with Collections Manager on month end collections, unapplied cash reporting and special projects.
• Daily correspondence with customers in order to ascertain status of past due invoices, status of payments, disputes, shortages, price/quantity discrepancies and other charge backs.
• Research and reconcile past due amounts appearing in aged accounts receivable trial balance to ascertain status of collection and balance outstanding. 
• Prepare credit and debit memos necessary to adjust customer accounts receivable.
• Provide timely response to customer (internal and external) inquiries regarding their account and provide information requested by customers.
• Resolve historical accounts receivable issues arising from misapplication, incomplete application or non-application of customer payments, returns, allowances, shipping variances (short shipments), and debit and credit memos.
• Participation in special projects and performance of other duties as required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or the equivalent is required.
• Some college is preferred.
• 5 years of commercial collections experience is required.

REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS:

• Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
• Ability to provide guidance to a team of collection specialists.
• Ability to assist with weekly and month end reports.
• Self-motivated and able to work well under pressure.
• Ability to prioritize, handles multiple tasks, organize and ensure timely completion of job responsibilities with minimal supervision.
• Well-developed interpersonal skills. Ability to make decisions and forge relationships with employees and customers.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with SAP software is preferred.
• Experience with SalesForce.com is preferred.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Regular sitting at work station for 75% of the work shift
