Responsible for controlling the proper application of a layer of solvent-based adhesives to moving material running through a reverse roll coating head.
- Observe and adjust machine settings to achieve an even application of the adhesive to the moving material, referring to a computer screen depicting the laydown of the adhesive in real time.
- Monitor the wet adhesive application for coating flaws and make immediate corrections as needed.
- Able to understand written instructions and to accept verbal direction from the Lead Laminating operator. Some computer interfacing/querying required.
- Perform expeditious product changeovers and cleanups to maximize machine throughput.
- Use material handling equipment, such as hoists, Industrial powered fork trucks, and barrel trucks to maneuver and position large rolls of polyester film, drums of liquid adhesive, etc. Some occasional minor lifting of machine parts less than 75 lbs. during setup and cleanups.
- Weigh and combine liquid or powdered components of specified adhesive formulations and mixing of these components under a mechanical dissolver/mixer.
- Able to work safely with, and in the presence of, flammable organic solvents, such as M.E.K. and/or Toluene.
- Work environment is not air conditioned and can be dirty/sticky at times.
- Need to keep working area clean by disposing of scrap, waste and debris as it accumulates.
- Work closely with the Lead Laminating operator to ensure proper machine performance, expeditious changeovers and organized gathering of components in advance of assembly.
- Join the Lead Laminating operator at the laminating end to assist with changeovers at that end of the machine.
- Monitor the coating and laminating ends of the machine during rest and meal breaks taken by the Lead Laminating operator. (Lead operator reciprocates relief of the Coating operator under similar circumstances)
- Follow the hazardous waste protocols of drum labeling and handling (training provided).
- Work as a team member of the Coating/Laminating department willing to help any other members to advance the successful performance of the department regardless of which machine unit needs assistance.
Production data is monitored with regular beginning/end-of-shift management communication).
- The company can work a fair amount of overtime. During the busy season (November – July), the company may work every other Saturday or more.
- Regular 40 hour 8-hour shifts run from 10:45PM Sunday night to 7:00AM Friday morning (3rd), 6:45AM Monday morning to 3:00PM Friday (1st) and 2:45PM Monday afternoon to 11:00PM Friday night (2nd). Overtime shifts typically run from Friday night at 10:45PM (3rd) thru Saturday evening at 5:00PM (2nd).
- Occasionally the need to work 12 hour shifts to cover for the absence and vacations of fellow employees is required.
- Our employees must be responsible and reliable in attendance. Absences may result in shift production shutdown and lost time for fellow employees.
