Job Description
Primary responsibility for the individual involves guiding and leading the validation of new technologies. In this function, the Engineer will be working directly with other Product Development, Research, Engineers, Strategy, Sourcing, Manufacturing and Marketing to understand, test and evaluate these technologies for applicability for manufacturing of new and innovative products
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Formula/Process/Packaging Proving and Scaling Understand product and manufacturing requirements and evaluate new technology requirements.
Collect, validate and analyze complex test and experimental data.
Understand scale up requirements and translate data to a manufacturing solution.
Prepare manufacturing feasibility assessments and order of magnitude capital cost estimates for the new technologies and required systems.
Provide an understanding of the impact of the key processing parameters of this new technology.
Collaborate with Other Individuals, Teams, and Groups Lead a multifunctional team in the identification and development of new to Hershey process technologies.
Understand ingredient and in-process conversions and critical parameters to ensure a manufacturing solution where day-in and day-out consistent, in target products are manufactured.
Provide guidance to Product Development, R&D, Marketing and Supply Chain personnel throughout the commercialization process.
Process & Governance Owner Communicate and present validation findings to the technical, commercial and supply chain teams through reports and presentations.
Provide documentation to increase success rate of new technology implementation.
Ensures applicability across regions and product types.
Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:
Experience leading a multifunctional team (which could include product development, quality, Marketing, packaging materials and engineering, etc.) in the validation and development of new technologies.
Knowledge of key steps in the development of capital projects, including commercialization, equipment selection, creation of PFD’s and P&ID’s, equipment acquisition, commissioning and start-up of process equipment and systems, and troubleshooting.
Understanding of the impact of the key processing parameters in the conversion of raw ingredient and in-process material to finished product and critical for the day-to-day operation of a line.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Must be open to and comfortable with change.
Must be able to execute projects in a timely manner.
Open to travel (including International) based on assignment.
Minimum Education Requirements:
BS Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Food or Agricultural Engineering
Minimum Experience Requirements:
Staff Engineer
10-14 years in Process Engineering and/or Product Commercialization.
Minimum 7 years of experience in the Confectionery, Food, Consumer Goods and/or Pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
Experience in leading the Product Commercialization and Process Engineering portion of multiple projects is required.
Demonstrate a pragmatic approach to design and technology development.
Experience with scale-up, PFD’s, GMP’s, estimating, and design are required.
Expert knowledge in the importance of the interactions of ingredients and process unit operations is required.
Have been actively involved in developing new machine or process systems from concept to delivery, and to be experienced in working on customer site to implement solutions, providing value-adding technical insights.
Experience of factory installation and commissioning of semi-automatic to fully automatic high speed manufacturing process equipment
Senior Engineer
5-8 years in Process Engineering and/or Product Commercialization.
Minimum 2 years of experience in the Confectionery, Food, Consumer Goods and/or Pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
Experience in leading the Product Commercialization and Engineering portion of multiple projects is required.
Experience with scale-up, PFD’s, GMP’s, estimating, and design are required.
Knowledge in the importance of the interactions of ingredients and process unit operations is required.
