1. Education & Experience:

A Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering, industrial maintenance, or a related field (preferred) OR equivalent hands-on experience.

Experience in Maintenance, heavy equipment, or waste industry maintenance.

Proven leadership experience managing maintenance teams in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment.

2. Technical & Operational Expertise:

Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and computerized diagnostics for fleet vehicles and waste collection equipment.

Experience with preventive maintenance programs and corrective maintenance procedures.

Knowledge of regulatory compliance (OSHA, DOT, EPA) and waste industry-specific maintenance standards.

Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) for tracking repairs, parts inventory, and service schedules.

3. Leadership & Team Management:

Ability to develop, train, and motivate a team of mechanics, technicians, and support staff.

Strong communication and problem-solving skills to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.

Experience in budget management, cost control, and vendor negotiations.

Commitment to safety and a proactive approach to implementing safety programs and protocols.

4. Key Competencies:

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Analytical mindset for troubleshooting equipment failures and optimizing performance.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, fleet maintenance software, and diagnostic tools.

Job Details:

Position Overview:

The Waste Management Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of a company fleet of garbage trucks, roll-off trucks, transfer station equipment, and other waste management assets. This role ensures all vehicles and equipment are properly maintained to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, and comply with safety and environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership: Manage, train, and develop a team of mechanics and technicians, ensuring high-performance standards.

Fleet Maintenance & Repair: Oversee the daily operations of vehicle and equipment maintenance, including scheduling repairs and preventive maintenance.

Compliance & Safety: Ensure all maintenance activities comply with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and company safety policies.

Budget & Cost Control: Manage the maintenance budget, control costs, and optimize parts inventory and vendor relationships.

Process Improvement: Implement best practices to increase fleet reliability, minimize downtime, and improve overall efficiency.

Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate service records, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), and provide reports to senior management.

Emergency Response: Address unexpected breakdowns and emergency repairs to minimize service disruptions.

Work Environment & Schedule:

Typically works in a shop environment with exposure to mechanical hazards, noise, and outdoor conditions.

May require evening, weekend, or on-call availability to address urgent maintenance needs.

This position is crucial in ensuring a well-maintained fleet, reducing operational disruptions, and maintaining safety compliance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 50 – 60 per week
