Summary
It is the mission of the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office to fairly and equitably uphold and enforce the laws of the State of Colorado, and to seek justice in all cases. The position of DA Chief Investigator is to direct, plan, organize and oversee all functions of the Investigations Unit (IU) under the direction and approval of the District Attorney.
- Supervise, plan, assign, and coordinate the work and workflow of personnel assigned to the IU.
- Interpret, enforce, and coordinate policies and procedures relating to the investigative activities and personnel of the IU; make reports and recommendations to the District Attorney; and, under the direction of the District Attorney, develop new methods and policies regarding matters related to the IU.
- Assist and oversee investigative support to attorneys preparing and presenting criminal cases in court; assist and oversee investigative advice to attorneys on the presentation of evidence.
- Participate in budget preparation for the IU; manage the allotted IU budget for the year; compile data and make recommendations and requests on personnel, equipment, and training needs.
- Oversee and implement management strategies aimed at providing excellent services within the confines of the IU's budget.
- Evaluate investigative personnel and make recommendations to the District Attorney on recruitment, hiring, promotion, career development, and discharge of investigative personnel; develop and institute training programs for investigators that meet the CO POST and office requirements.
- Manage the POST Portal (Benchmark) and perform all required functions as they relate to the IU.
- Develop annual training plans that meet CO POST requirements.
- Establish and maintain alliance with other law enforcement and criminal justice agencies; represent the District Attorney at meetings with our law enforcement partners.
- Establish and manage the on-call schedule for the IU.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
