DEFINITION OF POSITION:  A dynamic leader with expertise in curriculum design, personnel management, and community involvement. This role requires a deep understanding of PreK-12 education issues, Washington State standards, Professional Learning Communities, and special education law. Oversees curriculum alignment, staff evaluation, and programs for students with exceptional needs while ensuring compliance with Title IX and state accountability systems. Lead instructional teams, assist with labor negotiations, and manage targeted assistance programs and grants.

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  Superintendent 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess or be eligible for both a Washington State Teacher Certificate and an Administrator Certificate with a Superintendent endorsement
  • Master’s Degree in school administration or related field from an approved program of higher education
  • Pre-K though 12 teaching and administrative experience
  • Willing to reside within the Pullman School District boundaries

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctoral degree
  • Deep understanding of PreK-12 education issues, Washington State essential standards, Professional Learning Communities, professional development, and special education law
  • Key legal and school finance knowledge
  • Knowledge of Title IX, equity and non-discrimination compliance
  • Specialized skills in curriculum design, development, alignment, and evaluation
  • Specialized skills in assessment of student academic performance
  • Training in Washington State principal and teacher evaluation systems, specifically the Danielson Framework
  • Knowledge of and experience with supervising/evaluating administrative and instructional staff, and recruiting and managing personnel
  • Knowledge of and experience in collaborative bargaining
  • Strong communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative leadership style
  • Experience leading professional development, training, and collaborative instructional teams
  • Experience with grant writing

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and evaluate administrative, certificated, and classified personnel as assigned
  • Oversee and lead the Special Services program and staff
  • Responsible for instruction, curriculum, assessment, and professional development
  • Provide for coordination of long-range planning efforts (with other district administrators/staff/patrons) in the areas of program and staff development, including in-service activities
  • Provide strong leadership in the implementation of professional learning communities, and the implementation and alignment of essential standards and state/district assessments
  • Administer federal and state targeted assistance grant programs
  • Monitor and complete state, federal and basic education compliance reporting
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policy and procedures
  • Assist in the timely review and implementation of new laws and regulations
  • Assist the superintendent with personnel recruitment, hiring, management, and evaluation
  • Assist the superintendent in coordinating the district’s employee bargaining team, address employee grievances
  • Participate in and/or lead labor management meetings
  • Develop and prepare budgetary data and make recommendations for instructional programs and staffing
  • Prepare required reports, reports needed for administrative consideration, and reports requested by the superintendent and school board
  • Act as the district’s compliance officer including Title IX and Civil Rights
  • Be highly visible in district buildings and at district events
  • Work with the superintendent to represent the district in school-related matters with outside agencies, local businesses, and citizens and ensure visibility at district events
  • Other responsibilities as assigned 

TERMS OF CONTRACT:

  • Salary: $175,233 - $191,591 per year based on experience and qualifications
  • Length of Contract: 260 days/year (includes 25 vacation days and 13 paid holidays)
  • Benefits/Leaves: Medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability coverage is provided through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year.  Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS).  Additional leave benefits are provided per board policies.
