POSITION TITLE: Customer Service - ReUse Center (Transfer Station)
DATE OF CLOSING: Open until filled
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Waste Management Administrator
HOURS: Typically 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and some Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. – Noon. 40 hours per week (up to 4 months) or part-time (flexible hours)
JOB PURPOSE: Under the general supervision of the Waste Management Administrator; provide customer service and assist in operations and maintenance of the Renovation ReUse and Transfer Station.
PAY RANGE: $17.61 - $22.49 per hour
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Customer service. Characterize incoming materials for reusability, research, weigh and price items for resale. Help with organization and recruiting volunteers for Fix-It Clinics, Swap Meets, sales and other events. Complete customer payment transactions including cash, charge, or credit payments. Record payment transactions.
2. Maintain the building, site, equipment and incoming materials. Includes litter pick-up, sweeping, cleaning and keeping aisles clear. Perform a variety of manual tasks related to the operation of the Renovation Reuse and Transfer Station.
3. Material sorting and processing. Includes handling all items that are brought in for resale, handling wood/demolition debris from the Transfer Station. Operate equipment as needed to manage materials such as 2 wheel/moving carts, pallet jack and other light equipment.
4. Technology and Marketing. Learn and utilize the Point-of-Sale system. Promote the ReUse center to increase sales and reuse education, including newspapers, radio, and social media. Record inventory and categorize items according to MPCA SCORE reporting.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Basic knowledge of maintenance and repair, mechanical equipment, tools and machinery. Ability to communicate with staff and public in a courteous and efficient manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum eighteen years old; Current valid MN driver’s license.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Work is medium to heavy, involving lifting and carrying objects weighing over fifty pounds. Finger and manual dexterity and motor coordination are required for the variety of jobs performed.
