POSITION SUMMARY/KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Chief Administrative Officer/Chief Financial Officer (CAO/CFO) will be charged with leading essential operations for Doheny Eye Institute. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) as a senior member of the management team, this individual will have overall responsibility for the Institute’s finance and accounting activities and the Doheny Image Reading Center (DIRC).
The CAO/CFO will manage the heads of the Doheny Image Reading Center (DIRC) and finance departments and will work closely and collaboratively with other key stakeholders, including principal investigators, department directors, managers, staff members, leadership, the board and with Doheny’s affiliation partner (UCLA).

A strong interpersonal and communication skill set, both verbally and in writing, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with and gain the respect and support of varied and changing constituencies including colleagues, staff, board members, and CEO are essential.
The CAO/CFO should be a resourceful, results-oriented leader, adept at planning, prioritizing, organizing, analyzing, and high degree of initiative and follow-through. At the same time, this person needs to be a team player and a leader who values working collaboratively. The successful candidate will have a commitment to the mission of the Doheny Eye Institute, will be able to speak credibly and persuasively about its mission, and will demonstrate a desire to work with academic scientists and physicians.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible financial, business and executive experience planning and executing department budgets and evaluating the ROI of specific programs and a broad-based knowledge of all functions of operations, finance, including non-profit 501©(3) organizations.
A demonstrated ability to plan and operate strategically, to build public support, to inspire staff, and to develop effective programs is expected.
Exceptional financial, organizational and administrative skills are essential.
Experience working in a medical or research environment, although not required, would be helpful.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including collaborative curiosity and persistently asking “Why?”.
Prior experience in performance-improvement systems and methodologies (e.g., CQI, Six Sigma, Lean).
COMPENSATION:
Exempt $150,000 - $250,000
Annual compensation will be competitive. A comprehensive benefits package will be provided.
