Landfill Operations Manager

The Dougherty County Solid Waste department is hiring for a Landfill Operations Manager. The purpose of this position is to plan, coordinate and direct the activities and operation of the county landfill. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings. • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals. • Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed. • Administers and enforces the licensure and registration procedures for the use of the County landfill. • Enforces established safety rules and regulations. • Monitors and provides supervision of leachate operations, ground water monitoring, leachate collection, and other related work. • Performs related work as assigned. • High School Diploma or GED equivalent. • Four (4) years of solid waste experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Physical Demands: Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations. Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. • Involves routine and frequent exposure to: o Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen. o Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions. o Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife. o Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors. o Traffic; Moving machinery. Special Certifications And Licenses: • Must possess and maintain a valid state commercial, Class B, driver’s license with an acceptable driving history. • Georgia Landfill Operator Certification.
