Job Title: Food Service Manager
Reports to: Nutrition Coordinator of School Nutrition Services and School Principal

Primary Function:
Manages the Food Service Program at the local school level: ensures high standards of food production, financial control, nutrition, nutrition education and student services in cooperation with principal and under direction of nutrition coordinator and school nutrition director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1) High school graduate or GED, some college preferred.
2) Core GADOE SL courses completed (SL 1, 2, 3, 4).
3) Minimum five years’ experience in a school food service program or equivalent food service experience. Preference will be given to individuals with experience as a school food service manager or assistant manager.
4) Successfully completed or currently enrolled in district Manager-in-Training (MIT)
program.
5) Maintains ServSafe certification and meets GADOE Training-in-Depth Requirements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Lift and carry up to 40 lbs..
PROFICIENT SKILLS:
Written and oral communication skills, planning, organization, money counting, basic
math, and management skills; excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance and notifies coordinator
and principal when away from the school.
2. Trains, supervises and evaluates food service staff in accordance with
established procedures.
3. Follows all pre-planned menus with minimal substitutions.
4. Assures that Douglas County School System standardized recipes are
followed.
5. Orders all food and supplies according to established policies and
procedures.
6. Assumes responsibility for receiving, storing, and handling, preparing and
serving of food according to established standards.
7. Assures that sanitation and safety practices in all phases of the school
food service operation meet established standards.
8. Accurately prepares all records and reports required by the school
district, and submits them to the designated persons within the specified
time frame.
9. Plans and supervises work assignments and work schedules.
10. Promotes student and staff satisfaction by merchandising and serving
meals in an attractive manner.
11. Ensures customers are served in a timely fashion and food quality meets IDKR Standards
12. Communicates concerns to appropriate supervisor about policies and procedures relating to all food service employees.
13. Manages program in accordance with federal, state and local requirements.
14. Meets Food Service established goal for all health inspections.
15. Performs Food Service Assistant duties as needed.
16. Attends all managers’ meetings and in-service meetings or sends an
appropriate substitute.
17. Follows all DCSS SNS procedures for handling money and maintaining
financials records and reports.
18. Meets established labor standard and appropriately uses SNS subs only
when needed.
19. Follows and ensures that staff follows all HR procedures and requirements
as outlined in the DCSS Board Policies and SNS Employee Handbook.
20. Ensures responsibility for all SNS equipment through proper use, care,
problem reporting and employee training.
21. Provides leadership that sets high professional standards for SNS and its
employees per the guidelines of the school nutrition handbook.
22. Meets federally required training hour’s requirement.
23. Performs all other duties as assigned by the School Nutrition Coordinator
or Director.
24. Documents employees apprioately when they have not met school
nutrition program standards
25. Performs daily huddles which includes an agenda for discussion, intro to
new staff and time for employees to provide feedback
26. Communicates with school personnel, and central office when issues
occur in your school
27. Professionalism: Confidentiality when dealing with all school nutrition
program policies and procedures.
