Position Overview:The Executive Director (ED) of the Down Syndrome Association of Central California (DSACC) is a hands-on, strategic leader responsible for overseeing the organization's operations, programs, fundraising efforts, and community outreach. As the sole staff member, the ED will handle all aspects of DSACC's day-to-day activities, ensuring the organization's mission is effectively carried out and its goals are met. The role requires an individual who is highly organized, resourceful, and passionate about supporting individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy:
- Develop and implement a strategic plan in collaboration with the board of directors, aligning with DSACC’s mission and vision.
- Act as the primary spokesperson for DSACC, representing the organization to the community, stakeholders, and potential donors.
- Lead fundraising efforts by cultivating donor relationships, applying for grants, and planning fundraising events.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with community organizations, schools, businesses, and government agencies.
Program Management:
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of DSACC’s programs, ensuring they meet the needs of individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
- Coordinate events, support groups, workshops, and other initiatives that enhance DSACC’s community impact.
- Monitor program budgets, ensuring resources are used effectively and efficiently.
Financial Management:
- Develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring financial health and sustainability.
- Maintain daily, monthly and annual bookkeeping (issuing checks, bank reconciliations, petty cash, etc)
- Regularly report on financial status to the board of directors.
- Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and financial standards.
Board and Governance:
- Support and work closely with the board of directors in the development of policies and programs.
- Assist Board President in facilitating board meetings and serve as a liaison between the board and the community.
- Assist in board recruitment and provide orientation and training for new board members.
Community Engagement:
- Build awareness of DSACC’s mission and programs through outreach efforts and strategic partnerships.
- Promote DSACC's initiatives via social media, newsletters, and other communication channels.
- Actively seek opportunities to expand DSACC’s reach and influence within the local and regional community.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in nonprofit management or a similar leadership role.
- Strong understanding of financial management, including budgeting, fundraising, and financial reporting.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Passion for supporting individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Experience with event planning, program development, and community outreach.
- Knowledge of nonprofit laws and regulations is a plus.
Position Details:
- Will start as part time but would like to grow into a full time position
- Flexible hours, with occasional evening or weekend commitments for events or meetings.
- Compensation based on experience, with potential for performance-based bonuses or incentives.
