Position Summary:
The DSAGSL Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator will report directly to the Director of Marketing and Community Engagement. This 40 hour per week position will be vital to advancing the strategic goals of the Association through the recruitment and engagement of volunteers for programs and events, increasing our presence in schools and businesses, and through the growth of our marketing initiatives. We are seeking a creative, enthusiastic new team member to join our growing organization. The following duties are listed as illustrations of a successful member of our staff. Key responsibilities include:
- Recruitment & Retention: Develop and implement strategies to attract, recruit, screen, and retain a diverse group of volunteers through various channels. Identify, cultivate, and manage relationships with local companies, episodic volunteers, and community groups. Maintain best practices including becoming United Way Certified Volunteer Organization.
- Training & Orientation: Plan and deliver effective training and orientation programs for volunteers to ensure volunteers understand those we serve and our organizational values, expectations and policies.
- Volunteer Engagement: Manage all facets of volunteer engagement including project scope, timing, photos, waivers, and photo release forms are complete.
- Scheduling, Placement & Supervision: Identify volunteer needs, match volunteers with appropriate roles, and provide ongoing support and supervision during programs and events.
- Volunteer Appreciation and Recognition: Organize and coordinate volunteer appreciation events and activities to ensure our volunteers remain motivated and engaged.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of volunteer hours, skills, and performance and ensure this data is entered into our database on a regular basis. Develop new volunteer job descriptions and help the DSAGSL continue to build our volunteer policies and procedures.
- Communication: Regularly communicate with volunteers, providing updates, feedback, and addressing any concerns.
- Program Assistance: Manage volunteer-run programs and services such as our Helping Hands program, Community Groups, and Junior Board of Directors; and assist the Executive Director with Board meeting preparation and engagement.
- Content Creation: Develop and create engaging content for various marketing channels, including social media, flyers, newsletters, and websites.
- Social Media Management: Manage social media platforms to build brand awareness and engage with stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Relations: Build and maintain relationships with community partners and other stakeholders such as businesses, churches, schools and universities.
- Community Awareness: Represent the DSAGSL at fairs, tabling events, and community events. Provide classroom presentations and assist in providing presentations to community partners.
- Data Analysis: Track and analyze marketing campaign performance to measure effectiveness, innovate strategies, and make data-driven decisions.
- Program and Event Assistance: Be willing and able to be a team player and support the staff at various programs and events as necessary.
- Development: Have an eye for and eagerness to collaborate with the development department when volunteers and corporate groups may be a path to fundraising. Assist in identifying and recruiting in kind gifts.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills are essential for managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required for interacting with volunteers, staff, and the public.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build rapport and work effectively with a wide range of colleagues, donors, volunteers, and clients.
- Problem Solving: Ability to identify and resolve issues that may arise in volunteer management and marketing efforts.
- Technology: Proficiency in Office (word and excel), Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and Bloomerang or similar database software, Google Workspace.
- Experience: 2-5 years of experience in marketing and volunteer management or similar roles preferred.
- Schedule: DSAGSL is open 8:30am -4:30pm Monday through Friday; however, nights and weekends will be required periodically to ensure the success of programs, events, and community engagement efforts.
- Creativity: High level of excitement, creativity, innovation, and ability to be the best steward of our valuable financial resources.
- Leadership: Strong leadership skills and ability to work autonomously. Ability to manage individuals and groups effectively and with a friendly, positive attitude.

The DSAGSL was founded in 1976 by a small group of parents wanting to share and build resources for their children with Down syndrome. Nearly 50 years later, we are a premier Down syndrome organization serving over 2,000 individuals and their families annually. This role will have an exponential positive impact on our Association by helping us to leverage the assistance of community partners and volunteers and to enhance our reach in the community. By doing so, the Association will be better situated to serve more individuals with Down syndrome from birth through end of life across the region.
