Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Counselor to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of students. This position requires a strong understanding of mental health counseling, behavior management, and the unique challenges faced by students with developmental disabilities. The School Counselor will work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other professionals to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
Duties
- Provide individual and group counseling to students to address academic, social, and emotional issues.
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations to identify student needs and develop appropriate intervention strategies.
- Implement behavior management techniques to support students with developmental disabilities.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation related to student counseling sessions.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) for students requiring additional support.
- Facilitate workshops and training sessions for parents and staff on topics related to mental health and student development.
- Advocate for students' needs within the school system and connect them with community resources as necessary.
- Monitor student progress and adjust counseling strategies based on individual needs.
Requirements
- Bacholors degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
- Valid state certification or licensure as a School Counselor or equivalent.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of applied behavior analysis techniques.
- Proficient in behavior management strategies and mental health counseling practices.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to conduct diagnostic evaluations effectively.
