What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Mechanic position at DS Smith?
Duties/Responsibilities include:
- Works safely and complies with all mill safety policies.
- Completes yearly safety training.
- Performs preventive maintenance work on equipment, documenting any findings.
- Supports regular machine maintenance as assigned.
- Repairs broken equipment quickly and efficiently.
- Performs equipment rebuild work as assigned.
- Collaborates with managers to recommend any potential improvements.
- On-Call responsibilities shared with other maintenance mechanics
- Performs other related duties or projects as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Mechanically inclined with great problem-solving skills.
- Technical Knowledge
- Hydraulic & Pneumatic systems
- Pumps
- Bearings/Rotating Equipment
- Equipment Rebuilds (pumps, bearings, etc.)
- Rigging
- SAP experience a plus
- Pulp & Paper experience a plus
- Works well independently and with others.
- Good communication skills.
- Organized with attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Education and Experience:
- 2 years industrial mechanical maintenance work experience
- Some vocational or community college with related coursework, a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing and walking.
- Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
- Must be able to visually inspect machines.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
