What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at DSI?
We are a commercial construction company specializing in interiors/exteriors primarily drywall, framing, carpentry (metal stud framing) taping, and acoustical ceilings. We are looking to hire an Estimator. This position is extremely dynamic and requires a core understanding of commercial estimating.
The Estimator will draw up estimates and budgets to determine the overall costs of a new or remodel project. Create a list with all the needed materials, labor, and equipment, in order to determine an estimated amount necessary to complete the client’s project.
RESPOSIBILITIES
- Proficiency in mathematics, statistics and data analysis
- Familiarity with analyzing requirement data to develop material and cost estimates for large projects.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents.
- Prepares and estimates budget costs for construction by studying plans and specifications.
- Evaluates offers to purchase by site requirements, additions, and costing changes.
- Resolves cost differences by analyzing and collecting info.
- Writes up and presents budgets, reports, and project plans.
- Develops bids for construction projects, RFI’s and change orders.
- Works closely with General Contractors, Project Managers, field personnel and suppliers.
- Navigates and understands building codes.
- Processes paperwork and travels to building sites as required.
- Stays up to date with safety codes and improvements in construction.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- A bachelors degree in mathematics, architecture or similar field is preferred.
- 5 years experience in the construction or architecture industry estimating.
- Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of the building code and construction industry.
- Thorough knowledge of standard tools, equipment, methods, and materials used in construction.
- Expertise with analytic tools, such as spreadsheets and database managers.
- Knowledge of ProEst, Procore, HubSpot, Excell, Word, Outlook and other software.
- Knowledge of jobsite safety and PPE.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
