What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substance Abuse Evaluator and Case Manager (Spanish and English Required) position at DUI Counterattack Hillsborough, Inc.?
As an Evaluator and Case Manager you will be afforded the opportunity to assist clients in identifying needed changes and barriers to overcoming those changes. In some cases these are life altering interventions. You will also have the rare opportunity of working with clients who have maintained sobriety for very long periods of time, watching them rebuild their lives.
You will conduct DUI Evaluations, a risk assessment to determine offenders risks for reoffending and making referrals that are consistent with FAC 15A-10 and DHSMV Guidelines. As a case manager, you will monitor compliance and assess barriers to successful participation and completion of Ignition Interlock Violators and Special Supervision Services (SSS) clients. These are both programs for persons convicted of DUI/Refusal with specific driving restrictions. SSS appointments are very similar to probation services, just over a much longer period of time.
You will assist clients that you refer to treatment services in selecting approved providers and completing necessary documentation.
All of our clients have been arrested for DUI and/or refusals. Services vary based on the number of offenses, the number of convictions, and extenuating circumstances such as high BACs or involvement of minors in their offenses.
You are required to document all services in an Access database called Compliance Manager. This requires that you be able to accurately type while interviewing clients at a minimum of 35 words per minute.
You are required to review and assess arrest records, driving records, required testing instruments, analyze Ignition Interlock performance, and follow strict guidelines for making referrals to treatment.
You must be able to concisely document appointments and work cooperatively with all the staff of our small company.
The ability to encourage resistant clients to open up and be as honest as possible is a critical ability. Equally important is the ability to thoughtfully and tactfully address inconsistent or inaccurate information provided by clients.
Many of our clients have very little understanding of how substances impair driving and DUI laws. Most have demonstrated poor decision making skills and some have addictions to substances. Most can control when they use a substance, but lose control once they have begun.
We strive with each and every appointment to connect with clients. This is imperative as we help them recognize we are attempting to assist them in never returning to DUI behaviors in the future.
