Organization Mission and Overview: The mission of Koinonia Community Solutions is to build bridges to the underserved in northeastern North Carolina through education, housing and economic empowerment initiatives.

1. Member will develop a strategic marketing and communications strategy to identify and articulate consistent organizational messaging aligned to our organizational mission and core values and will develop a calendar and content for communication channels, including social media, website, e-newsletter, signage, video creation, for program events and general marketing
2. Member will help to recruit, train, orient, coordinate and engage volunteers and establish effective volunteer management systems
3. Member will develop donor management and community engagement systems and conduct community outreach to assist organization to strengthen collaborative stakeholder relationships with partner organizations, school districts, local government agencies and institutions of higher learning
Member Service Position Summary:
Service activities vary across programs but all will fall under the allowable activities outlined below. Your site has identified the following categories as ones the member at this site will participate in.
(1) Strengthening volunteer management and recruitment, including:
(i) Enlisting, training, or coordinating volunteers;
(ii) Helping an organization develop an effective volunteer management system;
(iii) Organizing service days and other events in the community to increase citizen engagement;
(iv) Promoting retention of volunteers by planning recognition events or providing ongoing support and follow-up to ensure that volunteers have a high-quality experience;
(v) Assisting an organization in reaching out to individuals and communities of different backgrounds when encouraging volunteering to ensure that a breadth of experiences and expertise is represented in service activities
(2) Conducting outreach and securing resources in support of service activities that meet specific needs in the community. For our purposes, outreach means communication strategy - social media, newsletters (other than volunteer newsletters) and resources is defined as pre-approved revenue or in-kind resource generation.
· Design and implement outreach communication strategies to include social media, newsletters, program flyers and annual impact reports.
(3) Helping build the infrastructure of the sponsoring organization, including:
strengthen the sponsoring organization's ability to meet community needs;
(iii) Developing organizational systems to improve efficiency and effectiveness;
(iv) Automating organizational operations to improve efficiency and effectiveness;
(v) Initiating or expanding revenue-generating operations directly in support of service activities; and
(vi) Supporting staff and board education
(4) Developing collaborative relationships with other organizations working to achieve similar goals in the community, such as:
(i) Community organizations, including faith-based organizations;
(ii) Foundations; (iii) Local government agencies;
(iv) Institutions of higher education; and
(v) Local education agencies or organizations
(5) DIRECT SERVICE ACTIVITIES may include:
- Reading to children
· Conducting basic computer lessons or classes as needed
- Collecting and distributing books
- Assisting with existing social media campaigns
· Completing data entry as required to document services
· Tabling to provide agency information or materials or sharing resources in the community
The Strategic Community Outreach and Marketing Specialist will drive the organization’s community engagement and marketing efforts to promote our mission, increase visibility, and foster relationships with stakeholders. This role requires a dynamic professional with a strategic mindset and a passion for community development to enhance the nonprofit's presence and impact.

Community Outreach
- Develop and implement community outreach strategies to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local organizations, community leaders, and residents
- Organize and coordinate community events, workshops, and forums to raise awareness about the organization’s programs and initiatives
- Identify and engage potential partners for collaboration and resource sharing to support the nonprofit’s goals
Marketing Strategy and Execution
- Create and execute comprehensive marketing plans to promote the nonprofit’s mission, programs, and events through various channels, including digital, print, and social media
- Manage the organization’s social media presence, including content creation, scheduling, and engagement with followers
- Develop marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, newsletters, and press releases to effectively communicate the organization’s message and initiatives
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with media outlets and manage press relations to secure coverage and enhance the organization’s visibility
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all outreach and marketing efforts
- Monitor and analyze outreach and marketing campaign performance using metrics and feedback to refine strategies and improve results

Collaboration and Training
- Work with other departments to support cross-functional initiatives and ensure alignment with the organization's strategic goals
- Provide training and support to staff and volunteers on outreach and marketing best practices
Administrative Support
- Maintain and update outreach and marketing databases, including tracking engagement and outcomes of various initiatives
- Assist with budgeting and reporting related to outreach and marketing activities
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
1. Citizenship or permanent residency status (Green card) required
2. 17 years old or older required
3. High School or GED equivalent required; College degree preferred
4. Background checks: National Sex Offender check, state criminal check, FBI check required
5. Valid driver’s license
6. Ability to create compelling graphic content using Canva or other design platform
7. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
8. Passion for the nonprofit sector and commitment to the organization’s mission
Preferred:
1. Prior communication, public relations, community outreach experience or related field
2. Prior experience with community outreach, marketing, or a related role, preferably in a nonprofit setting
3. Understanding of marketing principles and community engagement strategies
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create compelling content and build relationships
5. Proficiency in social media platforms, digital marketing tools, and Microsoft Office Suite
Commitment Required: Members are expected to serve 11 months. Three-quarter time members 32-34 hours per week.
Benefits: Three-quarter time (TQT) members receive a $23,000 stipend divided by 11 months while in service. Members receive Disaster Preparedness training and Mental Health First Aid certifications and ongoing professional development. Segal Education awards of $7395, $5176.50, and $3697.50 are available to FT, TQT, and HT members (respectively) who satisfactorily complete the required service hours. The monthly living allowance is only paid while a member is in service.
