The high-profile Corporate Controller, located in the Global Headquarters in Michigan City, IN reports to our VP Finance and is responsible for managing financial accounting, including but not limited to all accounting activities, including operations, tax, payroll and accounts payable. The Corporate Controller is responsible for our accounting system and controls to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting following generally accepted accounting principles. This position will also handle certain treasury functions and serve as a backup for payroll processing.

The Corporate Controller is responsible for our accounting system and controls to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting following generally accepted accounting principles. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide effective leadership and support in all areas of the Controller's responsibility as and across other departments within the Company.
- Responsible for monthly close, consolidation and preparing or directing financial reports to be prepared that are used by the Company's management, private equity owner and/or bankers.
- Supervise, manage and/or perform general accounting, cost accounting, accounts payable, payroll and certain treasury related activities.
- Create, post or review journal entries
- Responsible for annual audit, financial statements and footnote, as well as the 401k audit.
- Manage the company car program, W-2 processing and certain incentive calculations.
- Be an effective model for teamwork both within the department and to other departments.
- Integrate accounting framework of acquired companies and ensuring acquired companies close timely and accurately.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI's):
- Tax compliance and return preparation
- Supervise finance, cost and tax accounting staff
- Preparation of financial reports
- Manage tax and financial statement audits
- Special projects as necessary
Requirements
Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, an active CPA license and 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including staff management.
- The ideal candidate would have 3 years of accounting or auditing experience in a large national accounting firm and progressive accounting leadership experience within private or small public company environment; private-equity owned company experience is a plus. The successful candidate will enjoy working on projects that are accounting focused but also on projects that are tangential to monthly close, such as supporting payroll, tax and acquisition related integration.
- Must demonstrate the ability to be hands on as well as being able to delegate and train accounting staff.
- Manufacturing experience is a plus.
- Knowledge in ERP systems, cost accounting, financial reporting, US GAAP, payroll processing, calculation of subjective accruals, foreign currency, translation, international, acquisition accounting and sales and use tax.
- Ability to learn new systems and processes.
- Ability to manage others through periods of change and be committed to managing toward deadline for month-end close.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to write and document accounting conclusions.
- Needs to have the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities to completion in a timely manner.
- Technical skills and experience in accounting and financial reporting. Does not have to be a deep technical accountant but must possess the ability to identify issues that could result in complex accounting treatment.
- Proven success in working independently and in developing high performance teams and a strong team player.
Physical/Mental Essential Functions:
- Lifting of file folders, opening file cabinets and bending and stooping.
- Travel to plant locations occasionally
- Supervise assigned employees
- Ability to input data into computers and departmental systems
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business documents and manuals

Work Conditions:
- Primarily in an office environment. Accounting staff generally work 8am to 5pm, flexing upward around month-end close. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Some areas are narrow and difficult to maneuver. Must be able to walk one flight of stairs as there is no elevator access to the second floor.
