Job Title: Machine Shop Operator
Position Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Reporting to: Machine Shop Supervisor/Manufacturing Manager
Regular Work Schedule: Typically 6:00am – 4:30pm Monday through Thursday with overtime assigned as needed; The work week is Monday through Sunday and the regular workdays/hours are as agreed/assigned by the direct supervisor based on business/department needs.
Position Summary
The Machine Operator will follow the direction of the machine shop supervisor or designee to complete tasks. This position requires the use of forklifts, pallet jacks, and overhead cranes, among other heavy equipment. The Machine Shop Operator’s responsibilities also include ensuring their area is kept clean, preparing machinery and equipment for use, and performing tasks of positions they cover during absences and when needed. With minimal supervision, They strictly follow and enforce all health and safety guidelines.
To be successful, they must demonstrate safe work habits, be detail oriented, have excellent time management skills, have exceptional attendance, and have strong communication skills.
The Machine Shop Operator must be able to perform duties in a fast-paced environment with a sense of urgency while maintaining individual and team safety and the highest standards of quality at all times. A great Machine Shop Operator must also have a willingness to learn and improve through on-the-job training. They must be able to follow and give both written and verbal instructions and will work well alone or as part of a team.
Essential Duties
· Understanding and writing programs with M Code, G Code, and CNC (Hass) Mills and Lathe machines
· Editing and adjusting CNC programs
· Complete and track NCR non-conformance reports as needed.
· Setting up machines.
· Safety Inspection of machines
· Making Machine Plates per DIS specs.
Requirements
· 3-5 years of Machine Shop related experience or similar, including an understanding
of M Code, G Code, and CNC (Hass) Mills and Lathes machines.
· High school diploma or equivalent and at least 3 years of machine operator experience in industrial manufacturing or a related industry
· Technical courses or certifications
· Minimum of 3 years of machining experience required; college and/or appropriate technical courses may be substituted by 2 years additional experience.
· Computer knowledge including Microsoft Office products is a plus.
· Experience operating overhead bridge crane, forklift, and pallet jack.
· Basic Print Reading and utilizing measuring tools.
· Understanding work instructions and SOP’s.
· Solid understanding of production machinery and proper assembly procedures.
· Ability to follow directions and work well in a team or independently.
· Thorough understanding of and the ability to quickly learn production equipment.
· Understanding of and the ability to abide by and adhere to applicable OSHA safety and environmental regulations (such as constant use of protective gear).
· Attention to detail.
· Highly motivated, driven, and self-starting.
· Good time management & organizational skills.
· Strong communication skills including writing, speaking and active listening with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff.
Physical Requirements:
· Employees will work in environments that may include exposure to variable temperatures, fumes, dust, noise, lead, and dryness/humidity.
· Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions that may entail frequent climbing, bending, and stooping.
· May be required to walk for long periods of time over a large area.
· Frequently required to bend or twist the body.
· Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move up to 50 pounds at a time.
· Use hands to handle, control, manipulate, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
· Must be able to climb up to and down from heights.
· Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus to read instructions, operate machines, inspect parts produced, and be always aware of surroundings.
· Prolonged periods of wearing personal protective equipment, such as respirators, face masks, other breathing protection, or breathing equipment, safety glasses, work gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots.
· Regularly exposed to contaminants and uncomfortable noise levels within the environment
· Regularly exposed to hazardous situations and equipment, such as high-speed or high-heat machines, lathes, overhead cranes, and various lift machines
