ECHO is seeking a passionate and dynamic Shelter Manager to join our nonprofit organization. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Shelter Manger will work closely with members of the Client Services Team to meet the needs of the ECHO clients. The Shelter Manager will manage facility operations and cleanliness, maintenance, compliance issues, day-to-day oversight of donations, dinner program, kitchen/dining room, laundry room, and other duties as assigned at the Atascadero location. The position will also supervise the Overnight Shelter Coordinator Team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Oversees general operation of the shelter.
2. Supervises the nightly dinner program and assists with client questions, concerns, etc. The Shelter Manager would be the first staff member to approach an escalated client situation to use de-escalation, trauma informed care, and mental health first aid methods to diffuse/resolve the situation.
3. Enforces rules and regulations for ECHO clients.
4. Evaluates the condition of the shelter premises (indoors & outdoors) daily upon arrival for maintenance, upkeep or cleanliness and schedules maintenance/cleaning projects as needed. Will report conditions to the Operations Manager.
5. Coordinates community donations for the shelter and oversee the organization of the donation closet and sheds.
6. Provides weekly chore list for the shelter residents and ensures that shelter chores are being completed by the residents. Works alongside Case Managers to support residents with training on chores/life skills when needed.
7. Finds creative ways to engage clients and/or offer support to clients who are struggling with the day-to-day shelter life or rules, before giving write-ups or suspensions.
8. Oversees the entry and exit of residents from the shelter throughout the hours of operations.
9. Tracks items needed for the shelter and places orders through various vendors.
10. Assist residents with general requests and needs.
11. Enter shelter program data into HMIS data system on a daily basis.
12. Checks in with Overnight Chaperone Volunteers before leaving for the night.
13. Leads weekly resident meetings to clarify rules/regulations and receive resident feedback.
14. Acts as liaison with outside agencies.
15. Respond to telephone messages, emails, requests, inquiries and routes accordingly.
16. Participate in weekly case manager and staff meetings.
17. Prepare monthly reports and statistical documents.
18. Tracks and maintains the number of nightly meals provided, the number of overnight clients, and visitors to our shower program.
19. Ensure the safety of the clients, volunteers, and shelter.
20. Driving to meetings, events and for supplies is a required duty for this position.
21. Collaborate with other departments, taking a team approach to client relationships and advocacy whenever appropriate.
22. Supervision of the Overnight Shelter Coordinator Team to consist of: scheduling, approving payroll, on-boarding, reviews, terminations, on-going training, coaching, and frequent check-ins to ensure the expectations of the role are being met.
23. Other duties as assigned.

8. Able to maintain a high-level privacy and confidentiality of employees’, guests’ and clients’ information.
9. Knowledge of universal precautions and what constitutes a medical or situational emergency.
10. Understanding of mandated reporting laws.
11. Must be professional, flexible, friendly, and work as a team player.
12. Assume ownership for accomplishing assignments, requests and tasks.
13. Intermediate knowledge of Office Suite, including WORD, EXCEL, and PowerPoint.
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma/GED, depending on experience.
- Minimum of one to two years’ experience in health and human services
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Must possess a valid California Driver’s License.
- Must have a reliable vehicle, clean driving record, and proof of insurance.
- Must be willing to travel throughout San Luis Obispo County.

Variable work environment; work is conducted both indoors and outdoors with varying environmental conditions; door to indoor facilities often kept open, so warm clothing is required when working at night. The Admin Offices are located upstairs, with only stairway access. Noise level varies from quiet office environment to very noisy shelter and dining hall.
