What are the responsibilities and job description for the Point of Care Coordinator (POCC) position at El Rio Community Health Center?
JOB PURPOSE: Monitoring and oversight of all Point of Care Coordinator (POCC) Laboratory areas to ensure quality of Point of Contact testing (POCT), competency assessment and performance improvement.
The primary goal of the El Rio Health Point of Contact Coordinator is to support El Rio’s Mission of providing comprehensive, quality health care that is affordable and accessible to all who may have healthcare needs, by successfully performing the primary essential functions.

Essential Job Functions:
Partners with clinic staff in the design, development, and implementation of policies and procedures surrounding POCT/waived testing. · Prepares instructional/review materials; performs/facilitates training.
Assists in evaluation of new POCT instrumentation and supplies
Maintains records to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
Troubleshoots incidents or difficulties with POCT. · Serves as liaison between laboratory and POCT staff.
Represents POCT areas during accreditation inspections.
Serves on clinic-wide committees.
Provides a work environment safe and free from hazards; immediately address or inform management of safety issues or potential hazards; adhere to Health and Safety Policies and Procedures; participate in all safety programs, which may include assignment to an emergency response team
Maintains exceptional level of customer service; address and resolve complaints; serve as an example by providing excellent service to internal and external customers, employees, and patients.
Demonstrates and models El Rio Behavioral Standards in all interactions with patients, co-workers, and visitors
Demonstrates service excellence through the use of AIDET principles consistently applied with all patients, community members, co-workers, and colleagues

Represents El Rio Laboratory with Laboratory education and/or organizational events.
Responsible for; monitoring expenses and revenue; evaluate and analyze data; strategically forecast fiscal year needs as they relate to POCT. Document Available on Intranet
Responsible for oversight and recommendations for development of POCT services for El Rio Health Center.
Contributes to team effort; and complies with all facility policies and procedures including but not limited to those addressing HIPAA and Compliance.
Maintains a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment in compliance with all Policies and Procedures including but not limited to work areas, workstations, examination rooms, hand washing, infection prevention and control etc. for this position
Demonstrates an understanding of and proficiency with the application of all compliance and reporting requirements respective to Joint Commission Certification (JCC) standards.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
In support of the Mission and Vision of El Rio Health, will at all times represent themselves as a professional role model of El Rio Health serving as a positive informational source for members of the community.
Supports El Rio by participating in community events which promote good health, and which contribute to a broader awareness and understanding of El Rio Health and the many services provided to the community.
Participates in all appropriate health care activities related to El Rio Health on a local, state, and national level to maintain and enhance El Rio’s image with health agencies, professional associations, and the general public.
Ensures and supports the cost-effective use of materials, supplies, and equipment by limiting waste of all organizational supplies and resources.
Employees must maintain their skills proficiency with El Rio operating systems and/or software programs by adapting to changing requirements and successfully learning and demonstrating new skills in response to software, system, and program improvements or upgrades.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.).
Three (3) year’s experience in a clinical laboratory with broad knowledge of testing principles for each laboratory discipline.
If applicable, equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, and must be directly related to the functions and responsibilities of the job.
Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations:
Current Medical Technology License in Good Standing
Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers.
Employees in this position are required to have reliable transportation that can meet any operational reassignments of the organization during the workday. If an employee is driving during work hours, the employee is required to possess a valid driver’s license and must comply with Arizona vehicle insurance requirements.
Preferred Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited Medical Technology (Clinical Laboratory Scientist) Program.
