El Sistema Indianapolis
El Sistema Indianapolis(ESI) is currently seeking a part-time Director. This role will support the ESI school, parks, and community programs. The position will report to the ESI Board of Directors and will have frequent interaction with ESI Teaching Artists, student families, students, and the board. The position will directly supervise Teaching Artists. This is primarily a remote position with an estimated 400 hours per year at $29-$32 per hour. In person attendance is required for class registrations, performances, and development activities.
Primary responsibilities include development/fundraising, internal and external communications, and program management.
Development
- Serve as lead development officer supported by the board of directors
- Complete grant proposals and reporting
- Donor acknowledgements and stewardship
- Seek new funding opportunities when available
- Maintain donor and funder relationships
- Maintain donor management system and track donation information
- Coordinate regular email communication with external stakeholders
Communications
- Coordinate internal communications with Teaching Artists and the board
- Coordinate board committee work and ensure the working board is supported and effective in achieving strategic goals
- Serve as the primary point of contact for ESI Teaching Artists, guest artists, and substitutes with the support of the board
- Facilitate communication between Teaching Artists and student families
- Actively participate in marketing efforts to expand awareness of ESI’s work
Program Management
- Serve as primary point of communication for program planning, calendar, and implementation
- Oversee curriculum planning in partnership with the Teaching Artists, establish measurable educational goals, and secure opportunities for performance
- Maintain and build partner organization relationships: IPS, IndyParks, etc.
- Create and monitor organizational budget with support of the board
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
- A passion for music education and the mission of El Sistema Indianapolis
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate in a timely and efficient manner
- Ability to have consistent availability for (mostly remote) monthly board and recurring committee meetings
- Ability to work with an engaged volunteer Board of Directors
- Ability to build successful relationships
- Strong leadership skills
- Google Suite Products
The Strongest Candidates will have:
- Spanish language skills - Verbal and Written
- Experience working with youth from economically underserved communities
- Training in DEI/anti-bias or equivalent
- Website management experience (Wordpress or similar)
- Mail Chimp or similar experience
- Music background
- A desire to grow with the organization and to implement a strategic vision
El Sistema Indianapolis
ESI provides free music ensemble education to underserved students in central Indiana. Inspired by the international El Sistema model of "effecting social change through music for children with the fewest resources and the greatest need," we believe music is a vehicle to improve youth outcomes and inspire students to achieve their full potential. Founded in 2020 and established as a 501c3 non-profit, we currently operate as an after-school program in two IPS elementary schools and with IndyParks in the summer.
