Job Title: Presales Construction Estimating Manager
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Actively gather information for each estimating job by talking directly with the account manager, the end user, the engineering team, the estimating team, vendors, and/or other sources of information.
- Ability to interpret field conditions to determine project direction and to provide costs associated with large-scale mechanical retrofit projects without the use of drawings, plans, or specifications.
- Will submit written proposals, scopes of work, project scheduling, engineering solutions that comply with regulatory agencies, and estimating, including conceptual estimates, project delivery methods, construction economic and accounting principles, and operational leadership focusing on synergistic harmony between departments and processes.
- Generate sales proposals and Excel spreadsheets that are complete and accurate for the proposed project and that comply with Title 24.
- Perform constructability and code compliance reviews of the proposal, estimate, design documents, or engineered solution and effectively document and communicate constructability and risk concerns.
- Set work priorities by reviewing performance to ensure effectiveness and alignment with department goals.
- Control expenses by developing a department budget, monitoring capital expenditures, and approving purchases.
- Communicate department goals and objectives to field supervisors, Project Managers, and support staff.
- Communicate department expectations to the Sales/project management team and evaluate and report on progress.
- Provide sales support as required.
- Estimating, project development, and Review and sign-off of estimates.
- Develop and maintain vendor relationships.
- Lead project review and production meetings.
- Work with the Director of Finance and Project Managers to ensure proper project implementation and documentation through project close-out and final collections.
- Provide technical advice and assistance where appropriate.
- Maintain quality standards by visiting job sites and meeting with branch managers, VP Ops, field supervisors, customers, and vendors as needed.
- Understand industry changes and respond to alternative strategies to maintain competitive advantage in our marketplace.
- Actively gather and disseminate market intelligence for each estimating job by talking directly with the buyer, the end user, vendors and/or other sources of information.
- Interpret customer drawings, specifications, and requirements as the basis of formulating quotation strategies.
- Will prepare monthly financial forecasts.
- Maintains sufficient records, files, controls, and procedures to ensure management and work production.
- Develop training sessions for employees who require them.
- Maintains a strong safety program.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or equivalent experience.
- 10 years of combined experience in the field and/or management working in the HVAC industry.
- 2 years in Plan Inspect & estimation pipe fitting trades work.
- This position requires strong leadership, management, and organizational skills, the ability to perform detailed work on time, follow up through order closure, and manage a team to deliver projects on time and within the budget.
- Experience with tooling, machining, fabrication, or construction environments and industries.
- Excellent communication skills required.
- Must be fluent with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Strong technical writing skills and the ability to read and interpret drawings and/or construction plans are required for success.
