What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research And Development Specialist position at Emmi Desserts?
Emmi Desserts is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Research & Development Specialist, Commercialization for our 2 New Jersey facilities. As part of the R&D team this role will support the continuous innovation of new products, and is responsible for the sampling, testing, commercialization, and process improvement of new and existing bakery products. This also includes running floor samples and tests of new products or product improvements, validating the formulas of existing products, and performing regular quality and process checks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work closely with the R&D Manager, to create and implement new products.
• Develop test run and production plans and support the on-floor test, trial and production runs of new products.
• Train production employees on how to produce new items or correct existing items.
• Work with the planner to determine Fixed Period Requirements for new items.
• Utilize ERP software to create and update instructions as needed.
• Validate current production formulas.
• Organize or Prepare samples and sample runs for customer review and internal use.
• Perform ingredient substitution tests to assess functionality and quality.
• Improve product quality through on-going review of formulation and process parameters.
• Troubleshoot issues in production.
• Provide support to internal teams (Procurement, QA, Customer Service, Sales and Production).
QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum 5-years' experience in commercial baking, baking and pastry arts, R&D or Food/Baking Science.
• Experience in a large-scale commercial bakery producing various cakes, pastries, pies, cookies, mousses and filings and creams.
• Associate degree in Pastry Arts / Baking or equivalent.
• A well-developed palate and a passion for making ideas come to life.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Highly organized and ability to be a self-starter.
• Working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), SharePoint, ERP systems / PowerPoint.
• Spanish language skills a plus.
