Industrial Refrigeration Technician
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Production and coordinating with the maintenance department, the Industrial Refrigeration Technician is responsible for repairing, maintaining, and assisting in the operation of commercial and industrial refrigeration systems. This includes inspecting, diagnosing, and troubleshooting systems and components, such as coolers, freezers, IQF freezers, chillers, HVAC units, utilities equipment, and electrical systems, etc. This position must be knowledgeable about the operation of a variety of refrigerants, such as ammonia and Freon, and be familiar with the latest safety regulations and industry standards. The refrigeration specialist will also participate in running and maintaining production lines.
Essential Functions:
- Performs, schedules and facilitate repairs and maintenance of the refrigeration systems and components for cold storage, processing, and other misc. equipment.
- Monitors all refrigeration and cold storage systems, functions as the lead operator and ensures the systems are running at maximum efficiency through inspections.
- Maintains all ammonia system records and ensures proper training and certification of the Ammonia team.
- Implements and keeps up to date the Ammonia Emergency Management Plan
- Conduct on-site inspection and diagnosing as well as troubleshooting repair of production line equipment.
- Provide oversight and assistance with the operation of the IQF blast freezer along with various other refrigeration systems.
- Recommend solutions for complex issues that surround our refrigeration systems.
- Participates in regular safety training and stays up to date with the latest safety regulations and industry standards.
- Address and follow up with work orders and is responsible for document management of preventative maintenance on all heating and refrigeration systems.
- Assists in running the production lines year-round and assists with overseeing and operating seasonal IQF and Bulk processing.
- Manages inventory parts program and maintains the spare parts inventories for refrigeration system.
- Trains operators in the proper use of equipment and the proper procedures to follow when operating equipment.
- Works with outside contractors and serves as contact person for refrigeration.
- Assists with electrical projects as needed.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- 2 to 5 years of relevant refrigeration experience and/or HVAC Technician experience
- Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical components.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Familiarity with computerized control systems (PLC experience is a plus).
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Strong knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems (CIRO/RETA certification is a plus).
- Experience working with OSHA PSM-covered processes preferred but not required.
- Reliable attendance is important in meeting the needs of the Company.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle, possess a valid Washington Driver’s License and be insurable.
Work Environnent :
- Typically work indoors in a production setting.
- Exposure to Northwest temperature fluctuations.
- Frequently works near moving mechanical parts, near fumes or airborne particles, and extreme cold (non-weather) conditions.
- Occasionally works in wet or humid conditions (non-weather), in high, precarious places, near toxic or caustic chemicals, in outdoor weather conditions, at risk of electrical shock, works with explosives, and is in risk of radiation.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will be regularly communicating by telephone, and in person, and must have the ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. The employee must be able to operate a motor vehicle unassisted.
