Job Title: Tool & Die Maker/Test Technician

We are seeking a versatile professional looking for a unique day-to-day experience. This hybrid role divides its time between testing aerospace parts and building the fixturing used to test them. In their capacity as a fixture builder, the candidate will design and build basic custom fixturing on conventional operated lathes and vertical mills. In their capacity as a test technician, the candidate will perform pressure, flow, and load testing and dynamic balancing of parts for the aerospace industry. This position demands a high level of flexibility, as the distribution of time between these responsibilities can vary from week to week. The successful candidate will be expected to adapt to changing priorities and project requirements.
The right candidate will join us with a pre-existing mastery of toolmaking on manual machines. We will provide all training necessary on the design of fixturing and testing of aerospace parts. Responsibilities include:
· Manufacture tooling including but not limited to pressure, flow, dead load, and balance fixturing using manual vertical mills, manual lathes, chucking lathe, band saw, grinding machines, hand tools and more.
· Collaborate with the shop foreman to understand test requirements and design custom fixturing to meet those requirements.
· Assist in the cost-estimation of fixturing manufacture costs.
· Demonstrate a proficiency with precision measuring tools.
· Perform pressure, hydraulic flow, hydraulic load, and dead load testing, static and dynamic balancing of aerospace tooling and flight parts.
· Troubleshoot tooling and fixturing issues quickly and efficiently to sustain production flow.
· Maintain quality by following ISO9001:2015 standards.
· Read blueprints, shop process sheets, and operation sheets to thoroughly understand and execute the testing requirements of complex parts.
· Adapt to a high mix and ever-changing range of parts and processes.
· Operate a variety of test stands and equipment.
· Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean work area.
· Supports and participates in continuous improvement initiatives and Safety-First culture.
· Maintain accurate, legible, and timely records.
· Collaborate effectively with other staff to work towards shared goals.
Required Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or GED
· Blueprint reading
· Demonstrated experience using conventional manufacturing equipment including but not limited to vertical mills, lathes, chucking lathes, bandsaws, surface grinding machines, hand tools, and more.
· In-depth knowledge of general dimensioning and tolerances.
· Experience designing basic tools or fixturing a strong plus.
· Strong work ethic – we work hard to ensure a timely turn-around for our customers. This position plays a major role in ensuring a smooth operation.
· Communication skills – effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are important to the function of this job.
· Attention to detail – in this detail-oriented industry, this job requires a keen eye to details both small and large, to ensure all standards and requirements are being met.
· Ability to lift at least 50lbs.
· Ability to read and process a blueprint is a strong plus.
· Relevant experience a plus.
