What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior/Principal Scientist (Genetic Medicine Platform Development) position at Engage Bio?
Our Mission: Engage Bio is a Y Combinator-backed, seed-stage biotech developing a new class of genetic medicines. Our Tethosome platform solves the two main challenges of non-viral DNA therapies: low expression and toxicity caused by innate immune detection. Tethosomes achieve 100x higher expression than traditional DNA and evade detection by the innate immune system, finally enabling potent and safe non-viral DNA therapies. The programmability and specificity of Tethosomes enable broad therapeutic applications ranging from gene replacement to cancer immunotherapy.
Our Work: It’s exciting, fast-paced, and rewarding. We believe that improving the lives of patients is the most valuable goal we can aspire to - and we're looking for others who share our passion.
The Role: We are seeking a Senior/Principal Scientist to join our growing team and to keep our research moving forward. You will be responsible for generating clear data packages to communicate results and inform decision making and also researching novel assays and technologies to help improve and accelerate Engage’s workflow. Projects will include developing, running, and analyzing in vitro assays, optimizing lipid nanoparticle formulations, and helping the team in any way you can. As we are a fast-growing startup, this role is malleable and offers exposure to numerous aspects of preclinical and early clinical drug development.
Your Experience: PhD in Chemistry, Biology or related field with 4-8 years of experience. This role requires extensive experience in assay development or lipid nanoparticle formulation and a willingness to become an expert in other areas. Experience in mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISAs, high throughput cell-based assays, lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulation, and LNP characterization is desirable.
What we’re looking for: We are passionate about improving the lives of patients and we are looking for teammates who will have a similar sense of ownership over our collective efforts. Key attributes we are seeking include flexibility, efficiency, organization, motivation to independently drive projects, and a shared sense of purpose.
Benefits: This role is a unique opportunity to join a fast paced startup environment and be a key contributor to the development of next generation genetic medicines. We provide strong equity incentives, health and dental benefits, and generous PTO. We are centrally located in the Bay Area at MBC BioLabs in San Carlos, a collaborative hub of innovative scientists and startups.
