Brief Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides strong leadership and direction to the Company with regards to environmental, health and safety to ensure the well-being of all employees and protection of the environment. Ensures the organization actively manages regulatory requirements/changes, incidents, and displays a proactive approach to risk mitigation. Supervises, participates and develops the training of employees on EHS policies, procedures and regulations. Ensures compliance to established standards and applicable Federal, State, and Customer/Governmental agency guidelines and requirements. The role supports critical plant initiatives and requires frequent interaction with production technicians and operators.

Monday-Friday 8am-5pm; present to fulfill job duties & meet operational demands/support; schedule may vary depending on plant operational needs thus flexibility is required which could include long days, occasional evening & weekends; minimal travel for business meetings or trainings may be required; Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position

Essential Job Functions
- Promote a Safety-First culture within the company through frequent interaction with all stakeholders
- Responsible for defining, implementing and tracking EHS core programs including safety training, site audits, and the implementation of EHS policies
- Works locally on the creation, revision and implementation of safety procedures to improve EHS policies and standards as well as track its performance
- Stays up to date on developments in legislation and advises the organization on compliance; investigates accidents at the facility as necessary and assists in major incidents within the unit to ensure risks are addressed and problems are rectified; report all accidents, occupational illnesses and emergencies
- Responsible for managing EHS training and communication programs as well as the PPE program
- Establishes and monitors EHS objectives, metrics and targets that reflect facility needs and are aligned with company and legal expectations; identify and support actions necessary to ensure these are achieved
- Benchmark existing processes and best practice implementation into the unit and keep the company involved in main industry safety discussions and organizations
- Develop, implement and maintain manufacturing plant specific safety policies
- Develop and manage all processes as outlined by OSHA and EPA standards
- Manage job hazard analysis and PPE assessments
- Monitor employee exposure to job and chemical hazards
- Develop, implement and manage the site Industrial Hygiene program
- Act as company liaison to local Safety and Environmental agencies
- Develop, implement and manage safety contingency plans and facility evacuation plans; ensures compliance with emergency prevention procedures and operational controls
- Responsible for managing the department budget, presenting information regarding budgetary needs to plant executives
- Follow all Health & Safety and Environmental requirements that are defined on work instructions or communicated in training
- Provides overall management of the Environmental, Health & Safety team ensuring overall safe performance of operations
- Work with functional leads to include HR, Engineering, Maintenance, Shipping and Production to drive continuous improvements across EHS activities.

- Required – Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Engineering or relevant field of study; in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree, minimum 4 years’ experience in a leadership role serving in an EH&S managerial role plus the required years of experience listed below
- Minimum 5 years’ extensive experience in the design, development and general operational oversight of environmental, health and safety disciplines required; safety experience in a manufacturing facility preferred
- Minimum 2 years’ experience serving in a supervisory position with direct responsibility for the work and performance management of a team
- Proven track record of safety leadership at organization >50 people with field staff
- Demonstrated ability to manage a 24-hour / 7-day week continuous operation
- Demonstrated strategic planning skills
- Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying and documenting federal, state and local safety; transportation and environmental regulations
- General knowledge in Environmental Hazards and Safety disciplines with experience in safety, ergonomics, environmental compliance, industrial hygiene and industrial operations required
- Knowledge of specific Federal and State environmental laws and regulations required, knowledge as it applies specifically to a manufacturing industry a plus
- Prefer data collection and analysis experience in a high volume automated manufacturing environment
- Innovative leader with the ability to identify opportunities and influence organizations to gain support and overcome resistance with data and persuasion
- Instructional experience in a group business setting; outstanding presentation skills
- Experience developing yearly training plans and materials for all departments throughout the company
- Strong organizational skills and proven ability to maintain accurate, detailed records that will be audited periodically
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills for relaying data (verbally and in-writing) between other employees and clients
- Preference will be given to qualified local candidates
- Intermediate level of knowledge in basic hardware and software using of a variety of different computer operating systems such as Microsoft Office Work, Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, Visio, Google Workspace, Outlook/Gmail and web-site software required
- Has the ability to learn new software systems and data management systems quickly
- Proficient keyboarding and typing skills
