The Opportunity:
We are seeking a talented and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering team. This individual will play a key role in designing, developing, and sustaining our complex opto-mechanical systems used in airborne and ground-based scientific instrumentation. The ideal candidate is creative, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative R&D and manufacturing environment.
What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities):
- Design and develop precision mechanical components and assemblies for airborne and ground-based instruments.
- Perform thermal, structural, and vibration analysis to ensure product performance and reliability.
- Collaborate closely with optical, electrical, and software engineers to integrate subsystems into complete instruments.
- Create and maintain engineering drawings, CAD models, and bills of materials (BOMs) in accordance with company standards.
- Support manufacturing, assembly, and test teams during prototyping, pilot production, and sustaining engineering phases.
- Lead or support design reviews, root cause analyses, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Work with suppliers to source and validate mechanical parts, ensuring quality and performance.
- Contribute to documentation, manuals, and internal processes to support certification, production, and customer use.
What You Bring (Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 3 years of experience in mechanical design and product development.
- Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and PDM systems.
- Experience designing for manufacturability and working with machine shops and contract manufacturers.
- Familiarity with materials selection, thermal management, structural analysis, and vibration isolation techniques.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; able to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities.

Travel Requirements
